To call this place a dump would be too kind. To begin with, it’s an old Howard Johnson’s and the emphasis is on old. The rooms have been redone and are comfortable despite the absolutely TINY bathroom, but the room I was in was extremely humid which gave it an off kind of smell. Speaking of smells, it seems pretty clear that the owners must live on site, because the hallways absolutely reek of curry. At certain times of day it’s overpowering. Luckily the smell did not permeate into the room. When I walked into the room and closed the door, there was a handwritten note on their stationary that said “Don’t lock.” This was slipped inside the plastic sheath that was supposed to house the emergency exit map, which was missing. When I inquired at the front desk, the person (I assume one of the owners) told me that someone staying in the room in the past must have put that there. It didn’t seem to occur to him why it might not be a good thing for housekeeping not to notice something like that. When I pointed out the absence of the emergency exit map, he just told me where the exits were. The place is decrepit and falling apart. In the part of the hotel I was in, there were no luggage carts, and instead shopping carts were provided. It’s not handicapped friendly and has no elevator. The plumbing makes noise. The toilet paper comes back up every time the toilet gets flushed. The 1875 watt hair dryer was so weak it took twice as long to dry my hair. Although the place is pet friendly, I was told upon check in that the pet fee would be taken in cash only. I flatly refused. If I had to pinpoint a good thing, I would say that they provided an adequate number of towels and all the outlets worked and there was a USB port in the wall that also worked. There’s also a Keurig in the room. I hate leaving a bad review, but this place suffers from a combination of what is clearly lack of interest in the guest experience and just being old. I’m frankly a little shocked that Wyndham allows it’s name to stay on the sign.
