We recently stayed at Cameron House Hotel on June 2nd to celebrate my birthday. Our evening included a reservation at the Cameron Grill for 8.15pm - not a late reservation. The starter was delightful, setting high expectations for the rest of the meal. However, the experience quickly soured. Halfway through our main course, waitresses began setting up for breakfast around us. This not only ruined the ambiance but also made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. Adding to the discomfort, dirty tables around us were left unattended for over 30 minutes. We mentioned this to staff who very uncomfortably apologised but did nothing to stop the set up - this was only around 9.30pm. Feeling increasingly uneasy, we asked if we could enjoy our dessert in the bar area, explaining that it was my birthday. To our dismay, we were told, “the bar manager said no.” Even after we reiterated that it was a special occasion, the restaurant staff made a second attempt but returned with the same disappointing response: “even our best people couldn’t change the bar manager’s mind.” When we went to the bar, we found only three other patrons there, which would not have affected the service or atmosphere if we had been allowed to have our dessert there. We flagged our concerns with the management and were promised a follow-up, but we have yet to hear back. Overall, the lack of flexibility and consideration on such a special day was deeply disappointing. What should have been a memorable celebration was marred by poor service and an indifferent attitude. I hope Cameron House takes this feedback seriously and improves their customer service. We really hoped for more from a 5 star hotel.
