Distant relatives is the perfect place to stay in Kilifi. The whole staff is very friendly and make you feel like family. My wife and I arrived during off season, so when we showed up at 04:30 there was already a room available even though our check in was technically not until 12:00 that day.
Mohammed at the bar made sure we were taken care of whenever we wanted something to eat or drink. The food and drink prices were reasonable, after 5 days we only spent around $100 USD.
The pool was our favorite spot to sit and relax while reading our books. But reception was also able to help us call a Tuk Tuk into town and to the white sandy beaches and that was about $10 USD round trip.
Beware of the Vervet monkeys though, they live in the trees surrounding the property and they will steal your food if you turn your eyes for even just a second!
The toilets outside the Bandas are composting toilets, and that isn’t for everyone, but they do have traditional flush toilets as well near the pool area.

I loved the privacy it offered for one seeking some quiet ,relaxed enviroment. The variety in meals offered. The whole eco setting within the vicinity. The kids enjoyed the uninterrupted swimming sessions & making friends. For house keeping,they should ensure it's a daily routine in terms of changing bed sheets & pillow cases ,cleaning of rooms & bathroom & toilet areas,disinfecting of the same & probably put an active supervisor to do follow ups on the same to ensure high standards of hygiene.

What an amazing place, I loved being here. Distant Relatives Eco Lodge is located in a quiet place, close to the beach on the river. The staff are friendly and helpful. Food and bar service is good. Common area with pool is a great place to sit and relax, you can feel the peace and the real hostel vibe here.

I recently stayed at Distant Relatives Eco Lodge in Kilifi, and it was a truly unforgettable experience. The eco-friendly approach, from the beautifully designed bandas to the sustainable practices, made me feel close to nature. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, with friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure my stay was comfortable. The location, nestled among lush greenery and close to the beach, offered a peaceful retreat while still being accessible to local attractions. I loved staying here. Very relaxing environment, feels just like being in nature. I love that it is eco-friendly. The owner was amazing and very welcoming. Best place to stay if you are visiting Kilifi

As soon as I walked past the reception I knew I was going to extend my stay! I had a great time, service was excellent, food was good and I love the many little corners I could relax in and enjoy privacy. The beds were comfortable and rooms big and well ventilated, my only issue was this one bird that screeched at 6am every morning next to my window. I'd also take a vacuum to the spaces between the mattress & bed. It looks like beds are made immediately a guest leaves and left until the next one without being checked. I'd go back though

Sauntered into the much acclaimed restaurant on a weeknight and had a fabulous time. The open plan bar and restaurant immediately feels welcoming. After several shots, even ended up swimming in the pool. The bar has great sound system, where you can play all your favorite songs and burn the dance floor. I can imagine how amazing it must be during busy events!
