This is a beautiful hotel with superior staff that excels at service. Each staff member was quick to smile and respond to our every need from the front desk to the cleaning staff. The rooms are spacious with a front and back balcony and amazing outdoor shower. We were there with friends and stayed in rooms 5, 6, and 7 and all rooms were perfect in every way. They even had a birthday cake waiting for one of us when we checked in on her birthday. If you have the opportunity to stay here definitely take it. Our only regret is that we weren't there longer.

We enjoyed a nice stay at The Retreat. The staff were helpful and welcoming, even for our 2 am arrival! We were in one of the small ground floor rooms, #2 Ishimwe (Praise) with a tiny patio with no view, 2 chairs, bathroom with walk-in shower, housecoats, slippers, hairdryer and body wash, shampoo, conditioner, etc—it was small but comfortable. (The bigger rooms seem to be the way to go, though.) The pathways to the room and common areas are lined with gorgeous foliage. There is a heated salt water pool to enjoy a plunge or relaxing time poolside on the loungers. The Retreat walls are adorned with gorgeous local artwork which is for sale. We enjoyed the complimentary massage to get us ready for gorilla trekking. We had so much fun at the complimentary cocktail making class with Alphonse—great guy! The food was good, breakfast was included. We enjoyed one dinner poolside and one next door at Heaven—Derrick was a pleasure to chat with while he looked after us in the Heaven dining room. The cat visitor was an added bonus for me! We found the wine a little pricey. (We also did a short walk to The Bistro a rooftop restaurant in the Urban by CityBlue Hotel for dinner one night. We felt very safe walking in this area—watch out for traffic, though!) The staff were all friendly and helpful and are great ambassadors for their beautiful country!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Retreat by Heaven. While we unfortunately only had one night in Kigali at the start of our trip, this was the perfect place to land and get settled. The property arranged an airport pickup and transfer for us (the fee was very reasonable) which made arrival super efficient and friendly. Our room was really really lovely and we immediately felt at home with a great sense of hospitality. Once we were settled, we had a cocktail by the pool to get our bearings and enjoy the atmosphere. We liked our room so much that we decided to enjoy room service on the back porch to soak in the night air and enjoy some privacy. The property boasts a pretty extensive gym for those on a longer stay or working off some jet lag. Though we didn't have time to take advantage of the spa and massages, other guests said they were really nice. Whether you have only 1n or longer, this is a great place to vacation (or start a vacation) in Kigali. Also the breakfast in the morning was so so good!

I took my mother to The Retreat to celebrate her 70th birthday, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences we’ve ever shared. From the moment she stepped inside, the care and thoughtfulness of the staff were incredible. The welcome drinks, the kind smiles, and the way the team seemed to anticipate what she might need made her feel at home right away. We stayed in one of the pool villas, and it was exactly the kind of space I had hoped for her. The villa itself was beautifully designed, private, and peaceful, with a heated pool that became her favorite place to relax. She spent hours resting there, and it gave her both physical comfort and the mental calm she needed. As her daughter, watching her feel youthful, light, and excited again was the best part of the trip. We had lovely conversations around the exquisite desserts and she took me back to my childhood; everything we had survived. What a fighter that woman! The Retreat delivers more than comfort creates an environment where body, mind, and spirit all feel restored. Everything, from the design to the service, seems set up with that purpose in mind. I am deeply glad that this was the place where she celebrated such an important milestone. It was a stay that honored her, gave her joy, and left us both with lasting memories. For anyone considering a visit, I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

I am 72 and have traveled extensively all over the world. This hotel surpassed any other place I have stayed. The room was enormous with the largest bed Ive ever seen, a private, fully enclosed warm pool. The pool was 5 ft deep and long enough to swim laps. Two showers, one outside on a private patio and one inside plus another large bathtub. Toilet, bidet, 2 sinks. an expresso coffee maker, stocke refrigerator, large bowl of fresh fruit. Food was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful I only had one night but could have stayed a week! Grounds also beautifully landsy
