Several old houses are in a small courtyard. The facilities are very old. The experience is very poor. Breakfast has almost nothing good to eat.
The price/performance ratio of this hotel is so bad, don’t be fooled again. There are plenty of hotels to choose from on the island.

We had a great stay at Sala Don Khone hotel. We stayed in one of the French Heritage rooms. The room was huge with a lovely high ceiling. Air con and fan were very effective. The manager was so helpful, organising trips - the sunset cruise, waterfall trip, cycle hire. We cycled all round the island and Don Det also. Lovely terrace to enjoy the sunset. Thank you! The island is beautiful.

We booked the floating bungalow for 3 nights. Easy enough to get here. View from bungalow is lovely. Room is fine and fridge welcome. Bathroom very old. Totally my fault but I left an open packet of biscuits in the room and was rewarded with a nighttime visit of probably a water rat. The walkway to the bungalow is very unkempt but the island itself is full of rubbish. No-one seems to care! I found it shocking - plastic everywhere. We ate only in the restaurant. They could do with a dedicated waitress at dinner as the service is poor. Take no notice of some items like T-Bone steak which apparently is impossible to procure. We did the sunset tour and tuk tuk island tour and hired bicycles so we could see Don Det. If this place was cleared of rubbish it would be a vast improvement. We enjoyed our time here and I understand the difficulties with running a hotel on an island but there would be e many locals to help improve things. I hope this happens.

We stayed here as part of our Tailor Made Southern Laos tour, visiting Ban Muang - Wat Tomo, Khonephapneng Falls, and Li Phi Falls & cruise. Loved staying on Don Khone Island at Heritage House with our lovely lizard friend. Rooms are basic but do the job well for being on an island. Lovely gardens and peaceful surroundings. Great for doing excursions. we went to the Khone Phapneng falls. spectacular.
