This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel
The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest.
From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age.
The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant.
The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

Stayed 5 nights in this splendid historic estate is like being catapulted to 19th Century Downton Abbey. A superb property with palatial grounds set in a lake & mountain setting. Within just 5 days I had the pleasure of staying in 3 different types of accommodation to get the complete feel of the luxuries that Armathwaite Hall had to offer. I particularly enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast with an extensive spread which I would slowly consume over 2 long leisurely hours. They also have a great spa & pool where I had one of the most relaxing massages in ages. Special thanks to Richard Sidaway the Deputy GM, & to Mark Pienkowski Head of Front Office who personally ensured I had a most enjoyable experience. The enclose pictures says it all. Fantastic hotel, where the staff make the difference to your whole experience. The location and hotel is exceptional and I would recommend a stay to anyone here. A great spa, restaurant was great, and despite it being freezing outside, the hotel was beautifully warm. All in all a great stay

We went for the afternoon tea and had a wonderful experience. There was a lovely mix of sweet and savoury Christmassy food and the tea was delicious too! Richard, one member of staff, was incredibly welcoming and made the experience all the better! The Christmas decorations around the hotel were also beautiful making it even more special.

Beautiful location overlooking Lake Bassenthwaite - immaculate stately home that is warm, welcoming and perfectly decorated. Manager and Maitre D was superb as were all the attentive staff. Luncheon was delicious with sensible sized portions for older clients and prepared/cooked with skill.

The General Manager is absolutely outstanding, not only did he bend over backwards for us, he also helped squeeze my parents in for the following weekend. The food, service and general atmosphere is second to none and we will be going back more regularly.

I cannot fully put into words how much I enjoyed this trip with my two dachshunds Luna & Leo. From the minute we checked in until check out, the staff were superb and so accommodating especially with the two dogs who were able to dine at breakfast and at dinner. The grounds are also stunning and certainly my two pooches enjoyed their trip. I will definitely be booking another trip in the near future!

Went for afternoon tea here to celebrate a friend turning 60, The staff went above and beyond to make our afternoon a pleasant experience. When we mentioned we came to celebrate a special birthday a lovely gentleman went away and brought back a cake for the birthday lady. The food was delicious and we had so much we brought some home with us in a box.
