Response from Property: Hi Max, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. It's disappointing to hear that you were unable to enjoy your stay with us. In response to your comments the 3rd floor has 4 toilets and 6 showers which all rooms are welcome to use so a little unsure where you got the impression there is only one. Room 305 is one of our smaller rooms but all our rooms have limited furniture so you can have more space; we find that most of our guests enjoy the extra leg room but will take your feedback on board. There is, unfortunately, little we can do about the local wildlife but if you requested a floor on our 2nd floor you would not have any rooftop birds waking you up! Unlike the lovely YHA Borrowdale down the valley we are based in a town and therefore cater to both our local community and guests. The great thing about hostels is that no two are the same and although YHA Borrowdale has lots of charm we offer a different experience than more rural based sites. Although we don't have the space for a games room, our dining area has a games cupboard which families are welcome to borrow and we regularly update our hostel trail for children to enjoy. Our friendly team work very hard in between the hours of 6:30am - 10pm so we don't expect them to pull night shifts too, however there is always someone on call should you need assistance during the night. We wish you luck in your search for a proper traditional YHA in the future.

We're trying to replace our damaged furniture but, as a not-for-profit social enterprise, it's not always easy to allocate the funds. We're hoping to get them replaced by summer. In the meanwhile, Duty Manager Gwen has lovingly taken her needle-and-thread to the sofas and done her best to freshen them up. We'd just like to point out that in spite of what you perceive as 'unacceptable standards,' YHA Keswick is ranked by Tripadvisor as the #1 hostel in the area and was recently awarded the Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice award for ranking among the top 10% of all properties on Tripadvisor. Like most equivalent businesses in Keswick we don't have a car park of our own but we do have a few nearby free roadside options and a convenient pay-and-display car park directly behind the hostel.
