White Rocks Hotel Kefalonia

We returned to the hotel having heard it had been refurbished since our previous visit. Let’s start with the good stuff. The refurbishment has catapulted the hotel into the 21st century that could rival any modern 5*. It looks amazing and is spotlessly clean. The staff are also professional, polite and courteous – especially bar staff, Christopher the wine waiter, and housekeeping. The position on the cliff overlooking Platis Gialos beach is also perfect. We spent 1 hour every evening with a G&T watching the sun go down before dinner. Bliss. We stayed in one of the bungalows (not in the main hotel block) and again the room was spotless and comfortable. The bad stuff: 1. Dinner is now buffet style. Unfortunately, the cooked meat was often overdone, tough and sometimes inedible. Not good for half-board. 2. Breakfast was also a challenge. Cooked food was lukewarm, and the plates were cold, so we tended to stick to cereal and toast. Also, the Nespresso type coffee machines left a lot of guests confused as to their operation. This resulted in a long queue for a coffee. The bungalow: 3. For some reason, there is a 1m x 1m hole in the wall that separates the bathroom from the sleeping area. The result… the outside security nightlight shines through the bathroom window straight into the sleeping area… ALL - NIGHT – LONG. It then gets worse at sunrise as the bathroom window faces east! Sun shining in my face before 07:00 is not what I wanted on a holiday. See photo. The White Rocks hotel does try very hard. However, the dining experience is not good and the bungalows need blinds. Hence 3/5.

Our first trip to Kefalonia and therefore to The White Rocks Hotel. What a fabulous place. Very relaxed & easy going atmosphere. The accommodation, a junior suite, had a great view to the sea and little island which you can easily swim to. There was no problem getting sunbeds in the pool area and a pool bar was situated just below for drinks and snacks. The junior suite itself was spotless, cleaned daily with fresh towels and pool towels provided daily, bedding changed every other day. Food wise, breakfast was good every day with the usual hot/cold, sweet/savoury selection to choose from. The evening meal had an excellent choice and every single day there were different dishes available. A few evenings had entertainment outside which, even if you weren't sitting directly by it, could be heard and viewed from the hotel bar terrace. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have to say we will be hard pressed to find another such perfect hotel on the island, therefore, White Rocks Hotel, we will be back !

Idyllic views, beautiful hotel with excellent staff. So peaceful during our stay. First stop on airport transfer around 10 minutes. 10 minutes in a taxi to the Capital of Argostoli. Lassi within a 10 minute walk. It has it's own beach and a nice pool. Several other beaches in the area.
