The hotel has burned down earlier this year but the hot springs are open and wonderful. We arrived late in the day and were lucky to have the place to ourselves till closing time (4.30 pm in October) the baths are nice temperature ranging from 38 to 42 and nice scenery just in front of the falls. We paid 1000 yen for entry. Have to wear swimwear. They are closed on Wednesdays from September till? from what I saw signposted.

Amazing: Various hot springs baths in pristine surroundings while enjoying a gushing 30-meter waterfall, located in an UNESCO Geopark. The waterfall is Odaru Falls, the largest of the Izu Seven Falls. During the day, there are walk-in customers but the park closed around 5:00p.m. so only hotel guests could use the Onsen. It was lovely with the nighttime lightening, and we were the only people. BLISS! There are other onsen: large public bath, and around the corner is a lovely outdoor bath in 2 levels that over looks the mountains with the Kawazu Sakura. An adventure: The Cave Onsen with its almost hidden Fertility Symbols! The hotel is definetly older, but our room had been remodeled with a tatami bunk area over beds so everyone was pleased. Not so many amenities. The hallways lights had been hand crafted from sea glass, each one an original color and shape. Lovely! Not so many closeby restaurants, so Half Board is best. Japanese Kaiseki with the local Ise Ebi (sashimi and in the miso soup), dishes were colorful, plentiful, and interesting: Renkon manju (lotus), Duck and Burdock Rice, Fuji san beef fillet grilled, Basque Cheesecake. Breakfast was also served (not buffet). Loved that they provided an area in the lobby to get extra towels, very nice with all the onsen. The stairs are quite steep and many; they might be closed if heavy rain.

We loved staying a night at Amagiso and will return for sure. The check-in process was easy and the gentleman at the front desk was super friendly and professional (I think his name is Hittori). He worked very hard to make sure that we understood the onsen rules and made us feel welcome there. Our room was pretty large and well-appointed, with all the basic amenities. There were two double beds, a small table, and a TV. There was also an indoor balcony with seats and a minibar to store food and drinks. The hotel is a bit dated, but it's charming and traditional. The onsens are amazing. There were so many options, from indoors to outdoors, with different water temperatures. There is also a cool cave onsen and a nice warm pool. Due to covid, I can tell that the hotel had to cut down on servicers and dinner was not being provided. There aren't any restaurants by the hotel, so we drove for about 15 minutes and eat at a delicious Yakinuku place. If you don't have a car, I suggest bringing some food. There are plenty of snacks and drinks (including alchool) machines around the hotel. The hotel is located inside of a beautiful forest, so you will see tons of bugs and insects outdoors. I will tell you that it's worth though. The outdoor area is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. There is a huge waterfall and lots of outdoor onsens. It's such a neat experience seating by the onsen and contemplating the waterfall.

I've been dreaming of coming to Amagiso for a long time (I was thinking of proposing to my partner there) but with Covid it was no longer possible and the place burned down on New Year's 1st. However, I still came for the waterfalls and saw that the onsen was still accessible and run by a nice lady. So we were able to take advantage of it! It was an unforgettable moment. The place must have been magnificent before the fire and I wish all the luck and courage in the world to the owners so that they can reopen one day!
