Since it is truly a bed-and-breakfast, the toilet and washroom are shared. There is one male and one female toilet in the same small area.
I stayed with my 6-year-old son, and the check-in started with "How old is your son?", and then at the hot spring, they said that out of consideration for the daughters of other guests, even 6-year-olds would be allowed to use the men's bath if there were any complaints. To be honest, I was disappointed.
I think it is dangerous in many ways (including drowning and falling) to let a 6-year-old child enter the men's bath alone, and I cannot let my son enter the men's bath alone. If a girl's mother complained that "there is a boy in the women's bath," and even 6-year-olds would not be able to enter the hot spring at all, I would not have made a reservation in the first place. In that sense, the service itself was polite, but it was a tense stay, as if we were not truly welcomed, and we had to be careful.
Many of the staff were elderly, and I found it interesting that the elderly people were working energetically as a business model that can contribute to the revitalization of the local community even in their advanced years.
