"I have been to Karuizawa many times, and this trip in late autumn and early winter was very impressive. We booked a trip on a whim, which made our trip feel so wonderful😊
Karuizawa Hoshinoya Hotel is worth staying in. The one-to-one butler went to the room to explain the various services of the hotel in detail, and the experience was particularly comfortable.
The hotel is very large, with different types of rooms scattered on the mountain. There is a small stream crossing the mountain and running to the distance. The sound of running water is like beautiful music surrounding the ears. The water wave room is right by the stream and is also the most expensive room. The lobby is connected to the restaurant, with spacious and high-ceilinged large glass. When eating breakfast, looking at the autumn scenery outside the window, it is really worth it! There is a small bar, next to which is a row of lazy sofas, coffee, various Japanese teas, and snacks are available at will. Champagne has a time period in the afternoon, and guests staying in the hotel can also enjoy it at will. The details are really comfortable. There are two hot springs in Hoshino Hotel. The Hoshino Hot Spring is relatively large and famous in Karuizawa. It is open to the public at the hotel entrance (free for hotel guests). There is a smaller hot spring inside the hotel. Hotel guests can go there at any time by pressing the password. I went there to experience it. There were few people and the feeling of comfort was beyond words.
The scenery of Hoshinoya Karuizawa Hotel is really beautiful. It is so beautiful. There is a view at every step. The air is very fresh. I really want to be drunk in the autumn scenery and don't want to wake up. This is a hotel I still want to stay in if I have the chance.
Finally, I still want to say that the world is worth it~"
"An old Japanese hot spring hotel with branches in many places. The rooms are mainly Japanese style. The rooms are clean and tidy. The food is not surprising. The breakfast is simple and has everything you need."
"An incomparable place, Karuizawa, super fun, very good skiing, the entire ski resort and several surrounding hotels belong to the Prince Hotel, Prince West is more convenient, you can actually take the free shuttle bus to the hot springs Ski resorts etc. Very nice experience."

"Hotel is in a great location, about 700m straightline walk from karuizawa train station. Room is compact but you have everything and is clean, amenities are provided at the lobby and you can take as needed, such as toner, cleanser and cream, hair brush, toothbrush, there's even body scrub. There's drinks provided for guests, you can have tea or coffee at all times. Hotel breakfast comes in brunch menu, food is nice and fresh. There's a also a lot of restaurants along this street so not to worry."
"The loft suite is warm and cozy, the boss is very kind, and the location is very quiet. The room is on the upper and lower floors. The split level makes the activity area larger. Sleeping upstairs is quieter and less likely to be disturbed by people downstairs."
"The hotel is located on a remote mountain, more than ten minutes from the center. The rooms are a bit far away, but fortunately they are clean and hygienic, and the space is very sufficient. The most special thing is that you can use the small cable car to go up to the hot spring area. What is surprising is that the hot spring area has a very good environment and scenery. Beautiful, the spring water is very comfortable"
"I stayed with my family. It was a perfect hotel for families with elementary school students.
In the meal, there are many things that children like, and hungry children can eat to their heart's content. I was grateful for adults, not only for meals but also for all-you-can-drink alcohol, so I can drink as much as I like without making extra accounting.
The bath has a large bath (of course the scale is small)
The room can sleep in one bed per person and I am grateful to rest my tired body.
Also, at the time of check-in, all the adult rates were set on the reservation site, but when I found out on the day, they fixed the setting and made it cheaper than planned!
I want to use it again."
"Lovely villa for family visitors wanting to see Karuizawa! The location is fantastic, very close to all the main spots of Karuizawa, the outlet, the little village, some very nice restaurants are nearby as well. The villa itself is lovely and spacious, the lighting is really good, and you can truly relax and enjoy the area. The facilities are clean and modern, you can cook, clean, do laundry and everything in this villa. The only downside would be having only one bathroom in the entire villa, the bathroom is great with a nice jacuzzi, but it might not be as convenient if there are more people staying in the villa."

Amazing
YyingbinFelt cheated. Was told booking includes breakfast when checked-in, but during check-out then they mentioned only 2 adults were free and I have to pay for 2 children (above 6). Also, recommended to upgrade room for bigger size. However in the bigger room, the shower and toilet area is split to the front and back of the room. Suspect that end up the usable space is not much bigger.
WWMLanConveniently located - close to one end of the Prince Outlet from which the Karuizawa Train Station can be easily accessed on foot. Free shuttle bus services are available as well. Room was big and comfortable.
AAdamI stayed at this hotel with my wife and two children during a two-night trip to Karuizawa in early February. The hotel is around 100 years old and its claim to fame is that John Lennon has stayed there. The piano that he played on is still in the bar.
Location: The hotel is near Old Ginza Street and around a 15-minutes drive from Karuizawa station. It was not difficult to find, but you must navigate a narrow approach to the hotel which is icy at this time of the year, so you must drive carefully.
Cleaniness: The staff told me that the hotel was only recently and everything was very clean and in good condition.
Service: The receptionist that conducted the check-in was probably the Japanese that spoke the best English that I had encountered on this trip. He spent a lot of time explaining the hotel to our family. The porter was also very helpful and polite. When we asked for extra toothbrushes and slippers for the children, housekeeping was very prompt in delivering them and even brought some children's robes for my sons.
Facilities: The hotel did not have many facilities. There is a small shop, a bar and a french restaurant but not much else. Some rooms had private hot springs in them and they gave us the opportunity to upgrade. Our room, had a small balcony even though we were on the ground floor. It looked onto a wooded area so there was not much to see, especially at night. However, when it snowed the next morning, my kids loved going out and playing in the snow. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast. It was a simple American breakfast very well presented. It was very pleasurable to look out into the inner courtyard with it was snowing.
Overall: I like this hotel as it has a lot of character. It is architecturally attractive and has kept a lot of its charm despite renovation. The staff are very professional and polite. I would stay in this hotel again.
MMTXLWe had an amazing 2 nights stay here! Located about 5 minutes short walk from the train station, there were a convenience store and small supermarket directly across the hotel.
We weren't expecting much when we booked as the photos look dated and it was a last minute trip but oh mine, we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The room was large and although it was the old room, it had a certain charmimg character to it that we love. The bathroom was also big, clean and had a lovely large bathtub. I love the full range of toiletries they provided and was hoping to buy it in Tokyo to bring home but I couldn't.
There was a common area on the second floor where water, juice and coffee were provided and we bought our own sake in the evening and sat there. We spent two peaceful evenings here after dinner and it was lovely.
Our only complaint was the bed was rather soft and the pillows were flat. But we will definitely stay here again when we come back to Karuizawa.
WWanderEatsOur one-night stay at Hotel Karuizawa Cross was absolutely wonderful! The Superior Bunk Room was perfect for our group of six—spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed to ensure everyone had a comfortable and cozy space to rest. The bunk beds were sturdy and well-maintained, and the room had a warm, inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
While the breakfast options were simple and limited, the quality and taste more than made up for it. The homely, delicious meal was a great way to start our day, and it felt like we were enjoying a homemade breakfast prepared with care. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming vibe of the hotel. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Hotel Karuizawa Cross to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing getaway. We can’t wait to visit again!
KKa ManThe staff are all very friendly and helpful from driver to receptionist to cleaning staff. We have a pleasant stay in this hotel. The pick up service to and from JR station as well as the snow house are a plus for us. Furthermore, the breakfast variety as well as freshness of ingredients are highly appreciated. They are nice enough to give me a ride after my checkout for picking my luggages back . Overall speaking , I will recommend to others of this hotel .
GGuest UserGreat cottage experience in Karuizawa, lovely ambiance and very peaceful to walk around the grounds during the day. We were lucky enough to also see some cherry blossoms still in bloom despite going in mid-April! Service is also great with transport services to the cottages. Only troublesome thing is that you'll need to plan your time well to take the internal shuttle bus back from the shopping plaza/hotel lobby as it comes every 10-20 min!
SSinPros:
1. The room is very spacious, with a tatami bed for the third person. It was clean and well-equipped.
2. Convenient and free parking right outside the hotel entrance, although spaces are first-come, first-served.
3. Complimentary rental of umbrellas.
4. The private onsen was enjoyable, especially considering the public onsen at the adjacent building is unsheltered (hence the need for umbrellas).
5. Excellent location near Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza and Kyu-Karuizawa Main Street, providing easy access to numerous local shops and eateries.
Cons:
1. The breakfast was quite disappointing considering that this is a 4-star hotel and the other aspects are good. The bread was extremely hard and difficult to tear, and did not seem fresh. The overall variety of food was limited and not particularly appealing.
TTeoshomeThis hotel is a bit remote to those not driving . But the rate is very reasonable and by taxi is short distance to everywhere near train and outlet for shopping n food . The hotel restaurant for dinner is very good with live music and cost is very reasonable with good service . But you need to do reservation in advance . There is a big supermarket a few steps away that you could buy fresh produce to cook simple meal in your room’s kitchen . The public pool is sufficient and cleanliness is fair . Overall a value for money hotel .
GGuest UserI initially planned to book a two-night stay but was hesitant due to mixed reviews about the hotel. Instead, I opted to book for one night to see if it met my expectations, intending to decide later whether to extend my stay.
After dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, I made up my mind and chose to extend for an additional night.
The reception staff spoke good English, making the check-in process smooth. The set dinner and breakfast were delicious, with the restaurant staff being polite and attentive. I must commend the chef for the effort in creating varied menus for both dinner and breakfast each day of our stay.
The onsen was quiet and peaceful during my visit around 5 PM.
The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable; however, the lighting was too dim for my preference.
The only downside of my stay was the weak Wi-Fi signal, not just in the room but throughout most areas of the hotel.
