We had a family trip up to Karatu from Arusha last week. It is such a beautiful area and we had a great stay at Lilac Hideaway. We are a family of 5 and it was perfect for our 2 night stay, with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen/lounge and small veranda overlooking trees and wildlife. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and even took us from the town to the Hideaway so we could find the way. The price was brilliant and we would definitely recommend Lilac Hideaway to others who want to visit Karatu or use it as a base to explore further. The added extras were sodas and water in the fridge and teas/coffees available. There was even a menu where you could order food/drinks from the Lilac Cafe in town and have it delivered to the Hideaway. A brilliant set up. Thank you Lilac Hideaway!

The set up is slightly confusing but it is an African Business so it will be different to what the Western customer will be used to. The staff could not be more helpful. I booked directly with them and it all went fine. The accommodation ist clean, guarded and a true hideaway up a rather challenging dirt road. Don't try this in a saloon. Frumence, the booking officer, was brilliant, organised a coffee tour, a tuktuk and a driver for ngorogoro for us. All that went without a hitch. He even helped whe our car broke down.
