We chose this hotel as part of a stopover, so we could visit nearby Yobuko (to eat squid). Looking at the Japanese travel sites, it was unclear to me what the difference was between the east and west wing, but I'm so glad to have chosen the east wing which turns out to be their newer addition with premium amenities such as a communal onsen bath by gender and a co-ed rooftop thermal pool/bath that you can go to in your bathing suit. This hotel appears to be owned by DHC, which is a Japanese cosmetics manufacturer because everything in the hotel bears their brand. The nice thing is that their products are very stellar and they are readily available. The communal bath is particularly well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, facial wash etc. They also have a full spa facility with steam and dry sauna, aromatherapy rooms etc It was also a pleasure to have access to the beautiful baths and pool almost exclusively. We spent a lot of evenings after dinner soaking on the rooftop, listening to the sound of the waves. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk away from the center of the city, but it is a beautiful route that takes you past the castle. The entire experience far exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

The hotel in Karatsu is a new hotel in the station and shopping street, while there are many large hotels on the riverside and seaside. 2 minutes walk from the station. The 3rd floor 1 floor of the commercial facility is the hotel. Simple interior, clean and comfortable stay. The shopping street around is never lively, but there are shops that can taste the yuki of Genkai Nada, including a sushi shop with Michelin stars. Breakfast is at the cafe on the first floor. The toast set, bread and thick cut bacon were delicious. There is no parking lot, the station north exit parking lot is recommended, 500 yen to 12 hours. It was a comfortable Karatsu stay.

The hotel is located by the sea, with convenient parking. It is a seawater hot spring. The so-called Shioyu is a heated hot spring. The hotel is a garden-style Japanese hotel. Wearing colorful kimonos, walking and taking pictures in the hotel’s garden is unique. The front desk issued a coupon for Happy Hour at the bar, and you can have a few drinks at the bar. Breakfast and dinner are good, because it is close to the beach, octopus is a specialty here, and the octopus for dinner is great (sashimi and salt and pepper). It is recommended to stay for 2 nights, and each room has a free private soup reservation. As for the public pool, one looks at the sea outside (Figure 1) and the other is indoors.

The building itself is quite old, and it feels old, especially around the water. Hospitality is not bad. There is no convenience store near the hotel, and PET water and tea can be purchased at the front desk for ¥ 100. In addition, the number of restaurants that can be eaten within walking distance from the hotel is limited. There is only one fixed-route bus per hour, so the range of action is limited unless you are a car. This hotel was a really great surprise. Just a short walk from a JR station the hotel is situated right next to the ocean. You can fall asleep listening to the waves. The bathroom had a separated toilet and a big bathtub. The bed was really comfortable and you also had a few snacks as well as a water heater in the room. The city itself is about an hour walk along the beach or you can just take the train into the city. (just make sure not to miss the last one) When we were there (in October 2019) there was a construction side next to the water but since it seemed temporarily. Maybe ask before booking to get a room away from the construction side (still with ocean view)

A family like small inn lying besides a quiet seashore and very near to the Karatsu Castle. The Japanese style room was spacious with big windows that you can see a peaceful sea and enjoy a sunset view. The tatami mats were well prepaid that you just spread them out, you could enjoy a comfort sleep. The inn was easly to access to restaurants and shopping malls by within minutes of driving. There was Japanese massage for body near Aeon Shopping Mall where the price is only about 3000 yens per hr., bargaining price in Japan. The breakfast was traditional Japanese style with a bottle of fresh salad, enough for most people. The ladies were helpful that I thank them very much to help taking the luggage suitcase upstair. There are free carparks just at the other side of the road. Highly recommended.
