A small hotel. Shanani the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. She cooked us an amazing dinner one night and the breakfast also plentiful and tasty. The Villa is an easy walk to the centre of Kandy and the Temple. If you are tired of the same old hotels found in all major cities then a stay here is far more authentic. Clean rooms, great food, well priced and friendly staff. Shanani even made us some sandwiches to take on the train to Ella. I thoroughly recommend this place.

Even better than expected! A lovely greeting on arrival at this beautiful hotel. It is decorated, as the photo shows, in a traditional style. What you cannot see or feel is the sense of calm, and the gorgeous breeze that blows through all the rooms. The food is all home made including the jam! We also had an traditional Sri Lankan evening meal, a lovely range of curries The staff are so helpful, and organised good tickets for the cultural show, and visits to temples outside of the normal tourist route ( one of which appears on the 500 Rupee note) Thoroughly recommend x

Friendly family run bed & breakfast where you feel at home straightaway! The rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast is served in a nicely decorated living room where you’ll be served fruits and freshly made hoppers (a Sri Lankan specialty).

This place doesn’t pretend to be flash but is a very comfortable homely boutique hotel. The large bedroom was nicely furnished, but I guess if you were fussy you could say the bathroom is a bit tired. The location on a quiet street is central enough - 30 minutes walk round the lake to downtown Kandy. The manager, Shanani, was particularly kind and welcoming, as were the other staff. Lovely breakfast and Shanani showed us how she makes the best egg hoppers. Highly recommend this place.

Villa 49 is a delightful guesthouse near the heart of Kandy. Tastefully and artistically decorated throughout, the Villa has a feel of times gone by. The hostess is extremely hospitable and puts a great deal of time and thought into her offer. Traditional Sri Lankan food is served with almost everything being home made. It really feels like being a guest in someone’s home. I would highly recommend Villa 49 and hope I get the opportunity to visit again in the future.

Tucked away in Kandy, Villa 49 commands beautiful views of the city, especially from the rooftop rooms. Very welcoming hostess who was always smiling and happy to help us out Nice large rooms with A/C, all very clean and worked well. Thanks for having us all!

Staying at Villa 49 truly felt like visiting family. The friendly hostess welcomed us with genuine warmth and empathy, ensuring that we had everything we needed throughout our stay. The living space, where meals are also prepared, is cozy and tastefully decorated, creating a charming and homely atmosphere. Dining here was an absolute delight, with every meal feeling like a celebration of flavors. The rooms are simple but provide all the comfort one could ask for. While the villa is centrally located, it's worth noting there is no parking available. However, the authenticity and personal touch of the place more than make up for it. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Villa 49 and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and welcoming experience in Kandy.
