Delicious dinner and nicely-presented dishes. Plus, a great mountain view while enjoying the dinner.
I checked out in the morning to climb Tokachidake. Really delighted to know that I could still have an onsen soak for free after the climb.

Very, very good, the food is delicious, especially the dinner, I was really full, it was so delicious. The hot spring is also very beautiful, the therapeutic effect should be ok. The red iron spring is so fairy. The bus up and down the mountain is also limited to free, which is a great benefit.

Located at the top of Mount Tokachi, Ryounkaku offered breathtaking views of the mountain range and snowy backcountry landscape when we visited in February. An easy 45 min drive from Furano, there is ample free parking outside the onsen building or at the adjacent public car park.
We made a day visit to Ryounkaku and were able to rent towels which was super convenient. There is an old world charm to the onsen so expect rustic facilities. The female bath was tired looking due to years of staining from the copper coloured mineral onsen waters, but was adequately clean and tidy with full bath amenities provided.
What made our visit really special was the outdoor onsen which we got to enjoy all to ourselves as the only visitors at the time. The view of the mountains was nothing short of spectacular, with the back of the pool set into a small underhang of rocks which made us feel like we were bathing in a cave. Given how cold it was outdoors the water temperature was fairly tepid, but the views kept us there! We were thankful for the experience as we had read reviews that the outdoor onsens are sometimes closed due to weather conditions.
After our bath we retreated to a tatami room set aside for day visitors to enjoy some tea and to continue to soak in more of the views before leaving.

This hot spring inn is located at an altitude of 1,280m, the highest point of Tokachidake Onsen in Kamifurano Town, and is the highest in Hokkaido. It is also a popular day-trip inn for hikers to Furanodake and Tokachidake. The hot spring is comfortable, with an open-air bath, and the food is delicious and satisfying. The night we went, the inn was under the stars. The road to the inn is a pleasant drive, and it is surprising to learn that it is open all year round.

I used it for a day trip. The facility itself is old and the bathtub is small, but it's a very good hot spring that warms you from the core of your body. The view of the Tokachi mountain range from the open-air bath is also very good.

A super unexplored reddish-brown hot spring I've always wanted to go to a hot spring. I finally found it. The view was spectacular. It was like a painting. The water was lukewarm, so I took my time until the sun went down. The sea of clouds was the best view from my room. I stayed without meals, but my wife... They were very kind. It's a nice inn. It's hard for a hidden hot spring to survive, so I hope they do their best. I'll come again.
