Stayed at the Orion for a week in September with my partner. Overall it was a positive experience but could have been better. Reception/Arrival: The flight times to Greece from the UK are very late (obviously not a fault of the hotel) but it means getting into the hotel in the early hours of the morning. When we arrived we were greeted by a member of staff on reception who told us we had a room for the night but then had to change in the morning, which, when you’ve been travelling all day and just want to unload your case to make the next morning easier is a bit of a chew. We were shown to a room (319) which could only be described as ‘cell like’ with no windows or a balcony. It was an adjoining room so obviously meant to be a second bedroom to one of the other rooms but as first impressions go it wasn’t a good one. We went down the next morning and were moved rooms. Overall the reception staff were friendly and helpful and on the last day we were able to keep the room on until 6pm at a cost of €45 (normal checkout is 11am) Rooms: Very basic and dated would be my overarching comment. All of the furniture looks like it has come from the 80’s but is still functional. The bed is a great size (as it’s two singles together with a mattress topper) so no complaints there. Mattresses are comfortable although the pillows are hit and miss. Some are soft but some are old and hard. Balcony is a great size and if you have a pool view it’s really nice. Now for my major bugbear and the reason I wouldn’t return to the Orion, the bathroom. They need ripping out and redoing. Both rooms that we had were the same. The bath is like some sort of half bath which is very deep but so hard to get a shower in. The curtain is right on your back and sticks to you, the shower head doesn’t affix to the wall properly and if you have it on full power it wildly sprays upwards. The tap in our first room had zero pressure and in the second room if you put it on full it sprayed out of the bottom of the tap. There’s a random plughole in the middle of the bathroom floor, presumable because they know you’ll get the floor soaking with the shower but when you’re sitting on the toilet it’s right where your left foot would go. I’ve stayed in 3* hotels before that have been far better appointed than this one, that’s for sure. Pool area: Fantastic. Plenty beds which the good ones are often taken early but always seems to be more than enough beds for guests. The pool is great for a dip and seems relatively clean and tidy. Pool bar: One of the best parts of the hotel. The staff are excellent, food is excellent and reasonably priced too. Plenty of drink options for round the pool if you need to cool off or rehydrate. There is a good amount of seating and a pool table (although the cues are falling apart). Restaurant: We stayed bed and breakfast and only used the restaurant once as weren’t not really breakfast people. Seemed to be a decent choice of food although the cold drinks were la
