This is my favourite place to stay in Kaikōura and brings back many happy memories when I was a young backpacker staying at this beautiful hostel when it was a YHA many years ago! Such a lovely, welcoming atmosphere, clean, tastefully decorated with a well-equipped kitchen. I love it here and would recommend this affordable accommodation to all. Many thanks to the new owners for keeping the place going!

My family enjoyed the fantastic location and fabulous view from this hostel. The kitchen is handy for making meals and the sitting and dining areas are great places to hang out if the weather takes a turn!

Matt and Ginn are very friendly and helpful. The shared areas have magnificent views and are very clean. Our room and bathroom was also spotless but the bedroom a bit to small to be comfortable.

I was surprised by the affordable price for the dorm room bed, the owners were absolutely the best and the view of the bay is unbelievable. Perfect for me as a backpacker, would 100% recommend. Book ahead as it fills up quickly!

the kaikoura seaside lodge provided for us exactly what we needed – a roof over our head and a toilet/shower! it’s very much a backpackers’ place – there seemed to be a lot of settled in regulars who were very comfortable around the place. there’s a lovely communal kitchen/dining area with a great view, but no spare food on offer to make sure to bring your own dinner/breakfast – especially as there’s not really anywhere super nearby to eat if you don’t have a car like us!!! the toilets/showers were very basic and felt a little icky but i think that’s just the vibe of a shared bathroom. the water temperature & pressure were perfect. good distance walk to the seal colony. for anyone wondering, there is also a kaikoura shuttle van service you can call and take you/pick you up to save the walk!!!

Loved the extended family vibe of cats Arthur and Neil. xx View was one million dollars! Location was perfect for us to catch up as a family. We loved the communal area.

This was a great place to stay - the kitchen has incredible views of the water. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom which was great.
