This is a wild and interesting hotel. There are villa-style houses with two rooms in each building, by the water and on the hillside. It is pristine, with many ants and surrounded by tropical rainforest. The calls of black squirrels are like hornbills, and small green snakes hide in the bushes and leaves. The Gangkachang National Forest Park is not far away, a paradise for bird watchers and wildlife photographers.

The boss is very nice and there are many birds in the yard. Breakfast is average, but it can be provided at 5:30 in the morning, and there is sufficient power in the room.

An ideal place to go birdwatching in Kangkachan National Park. The hotel has a farm where you can eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Their pineapple is the best pineapple I have ever tasted in my life

Lodge is in a rural setting with chalets around the extensive grounds. Meals are taken at a central restaurant area. Room had twin beds set on a plinth, A/C plus a ceiling fan, bathroom had on demand hot water for the shower which had poor flow but ok. Sufficient light in the room. Food excellent, basic breakfast of yoghurt, fruit, toast but could orgder eggs, bacon. Make your own coffee.

Great. excellent position, great staff who are prepared to go out of there way. Accommodation is as described and very comfortable. The grounds are good for birdwatching and nature and have been well set out. It is possible to arrange trips to local hides

Excellent place. Beautiful, friendly, very clean and comfortable. Fantastic food. This lodge is the closest to the entrance to the park. When you book you can make arrangements for a guide for the park for birds and or reptiles. Also for a truck and driver to take you to the top of the mountain.

If you visit Kaeng Krachan you must stay in Baan Maka Lodge. We were here 4 nights and were happy we booked 4 and not 3. There are so many birds to see (you do need a guide). Not only at the lodge or the park but also in birdhides. Room is simple but clean and no insects in the room. Outside there are so many different insects, reptiles, birds etc to see. Really cool. The food was very good and staff friendly. In future we come back again.

We used this amazing lodge as a base while birding and herping in and around nearby Kaeng Krachan National park. The accommodation though a little tired is absolutely fine with first class air conditioning, food is plentiful and absolutely delicious. The owners, Ian and Games are great hosts with an unparalleled knowledge of local natural history. The lodge grounds hold an abundance of bird species, mammals, reptiles and spiders etc. Check out the images on their website, all taken around the lodge.

The lodge is in a beautiful location and convenient for Kaeng Krachan national park. Our reoom was very clean and comfortable, although the platform bed proved a bit dangerous when visiting the bathroom at night. Breakfast was quite basic, although there was an option for a cooked breakfast which we declined as our birdwatching trips started very early. Food in the evening was very good too. After a full morning's birdwatching, it was very relaxing to sit by the beautiful lake in the afternoon. The sunset bar was also very beautiful. The only slight disappointment was that our bird guide, although clearly knowledgeable, had little English and it was very difficult to communicate with him. This was particularly the case on our second day when he did exactly the same trip as the day before; a change to look at lakeside birds would have been better. The half day was very generous, lasting from 5.30 am to 1.00 pm. Birdwatchers definitely dominated the place.

Great lodge - used it as a base for exploring the nearby Kaeng Krachan NP. We even one evening managed to spot a leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) when spotlighting after dinner walking the cosy little nature trail on the lodge premises. Rooms are fine and the food was absolutely great. Staff was friendly and the owner knew a lot about the area and its wildlife. The banana feeding station next to the restaurant attracted nice birds and squirrels, which was very entertaining. The beautiful bird Blue-winged pitta (Pitta moluccensis) was seen at the lodge in the morning when using playback. This was a family trip (with three kids aged 8, 9 and 11 years) and they loved the place too. We would highly recommend staying here.

What a find! So pleased we stayed here. The grounds are full of birds and other wildlife. Like others, we used as a base for the nearby national park but there was plenty of wildlife at the lodge too to keep everyone in the family snapping away - even our typically tech obsessed teenage son. A late afternoon kayaking (free) on the beautiful lake at the lodge was special. Accommodation is basic but our chalet was clean with private bathroom and good aircon, and still little touches like shower gel and water/glasses in rooms. Onsite openair restaurant served delicious food and surprisingly large menu. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating, couldn't fault them (better than the 5* hotel we'd stayed at the week before). Will definitely go back if in the area and next time would stay an extra day to fully enjoy the tranquility and wildlife that the lodge provides.

I loved this place. I spent 5 nights here. The rooms are nice - mine was ok as a single room: nothing fancy but perfectly fine. The other rooms had nice verandas, which I envied, but I am not sure if they look better inside. Food was good, not great - there is a reason they do not sell noodles (I asked for 2 Thai noodles and they were not the best) but the rest is tasty. The fruit drinks are ok - note they do not add sugar, so it is a bit less tasty, and the watermelon shake was full off seeds. Where this place shines are the tours and hides, and those are spectacular. I did 1 full day and 2 morning tours in Kaeng Krachan NP plus 2 mornings and 2 afternoons at the nearby hides. The wildlife is extraordinarily rich. I saw 5 primates species, 3 hornbill species and I think 5 broadbill species, not to mention the other countless animals (mostly birds) that I encountered. Even at the lodge I saw some interesting birds, though I did not spend much time there during daylight hours. I will surely return, and bring my wife next time!

Baan Maka is first and foremost a great place to stay for birders and anyone interested in wildlife. The situation is perfect for access to Kaeng Krachen, Thailand's premium birding area, whilst also have lots of good habitat in its own grounds. We visited here as part of a group of six and all had a great time at the start of our birding trip to Central and Southern Thailand. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with good beds, great bathrooms with plenty of hot water and a veranda on which to sit, lazing the day away watching the local wildlife. The WiFi around the main area is also very good - a major bonus. Excellent food is provided in the outdoor restaurant, catering for all needs and tastes. For those so inclined ample and well-priced cold beers are available along with a host of cold and hot drinks. The hosts, Games and Ian, are generous and welcoming, making the whole experience perfect. If/when we visit Thailand once again Baan Maka will be at the top of our list of places that we wish to stay.
