Gold Reef City Theme Park Hotel

Johannesburg South|2.5km from St Anthony's Catholic Church
Since there aren't many reviews, I'll be a little more comprehensive: The hotel is literally inside the theme park- this is very cool. Getting in and out is not a problem. The rooms are spread out across a number of two-story buildings, so if you book two rooms, as we did, make sure you request they be in the same building. Rooms are fine- we had one suite and one non-suite- wifi and bathrooms are good, beds are comfortable, cleaning was not spotless. The inclusion of admission with the room makes this an incredible value for families. The restaurant available before/after park opening for guests, Barney's, is solid. The breakfast buffet is generous and eggs can be made to order. The hotel's technology is still paper-based in many areas, so don't expect an app or anything like that. The dinner options at Barney's were also solid- not gourmet, but above US theme park standards for sure. The bar is just okay- we had two of the worst glasses of wine we've ever had (didn't drink more than a sip as the bottles had probably been open a while) but then we had a nice bottle newly opened. The theme park is quite good- clean, with 5 coasters of varying thrill levels. The minigolf should not be missed (so different than beach mini-golfs in the US) but they only had a limited number of balls (!!). Staff was friendly and helpful whenever we had a question or issue. Overall, if Gold Reef City Theme Park is on your agenda, we'd highly recommend considering this as a spot to stay.

The customer service us excellent...from the reception right through the whole stay. The rooms are comfortable and clean. They have hot and cold breakfast options. No room service though! The snack restaurant serves great meals. We'll worth a visit if you are looking for budget friendly accommodation in the heart of the city!

Downtown Johannesburg
Though the hotel was very nice and comfortable, but it is in an extremely noisy part of town, I hardly slept through the car and people’s noise from the street. The parking is also way too tight with a single entry & exit point, I don’t think they must allow big cars to park there, or rather alert the drivers of the sharp and tight corners before they drive in.

The hotel with the best views in all of Johannesburg. Great staff, super helpful and friendly. The rooms are pleasantly large and have a balcony. The roof terrace is a dream. Only to recommend. Better to have it brought by Uber/Taxi. Even the few meters walk from Park Station is not without worries.

The staff are great, very accommodating, and very engaging. They are also very concerned of my safety (they always remind me to take care when going out). Saying that, the location might be challenging for those who are mindful of their safety. I am advised not to leave after dark, even just going to KFC which is just 300 meters away (I appreciate the concern of the staff). No wifi too.
Melville Turret Guesthouse

I stayed at the Melville Turret for 9 days, alone, split between work and vacation. Everything went very well, and I highly recommend this Guesthouse with its welcoming, friendly, warm and smiling staff, always available to meet any need. I had initially booked a room for only 5 days, I had no problem extending this stay directly on site. The rooms are clean and well appointed, as are the collective areas. Very pretty interior courtyard. Breakfast is generously prepared by Prisca, incredibly kind and with whom it is very easy to exchange and share (I miss your smile :) ). The street and the neighborhood are calm and safe, we are close (10 min walk) to activities / bars / restaurants on 7th. I could not have asked for better for a first experience in Johannesburg. Thank you again very much to the staff and owners! As promised, hope to see you again soon... Greetings from France, Morgan
