Nice hotel and very friendly staff- the room was clean and overall it was a really pleasant experience in a safe location .

Almost everything exceeded our expectations, from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out, you feel like royalty. The rooms are big and comfortable. The pillows sleep like a dream and the decor makes you feel like you're travelling back in time to when Marilyn Monroe was putting on her best show. Reception went out of their way to assist me with an extra bed for my daughter, free of charge. Breakfast was delicious. Someone is always asking if you want a coffee top up (yes please!). To the omelette chef, sir, I salute you! I LIVE for your omelettes. We even took advantage of the pool area, topped up my tan and enjoyed the clear, cool waters for a bit. If I were asked if there was anything they could do to improve our stay for next time, it would be a tiny one as this place already goes above and beyond. But, if anything, it would be to serve drinks at the pool. It would undoubtedly fulfil the dream stay. A couple of the waitresses came up to our table to tell my friend what beautiful eyes she has. If only they knew how much she needed the confidence boost, it's like God himself had sent them. Fire & Ice is simply the best! We were always greeted with the biggest smiles and best "good mornings", even told how radiant we look even though we'd just woken up. A lovely compliment goes a long way, so thank you! This Protea was fine with a younger more hip vibe but Marriott which is just across the road is more classy. I didn’t use the dining facilities. Solo Female Traveler 5 • a month ago Excellent Location, Very Clean, Safe and Beautiful I was a solo woman traveler to Johannesburg for the first time. I picked a perfect hotel. The location is excellent on Melrose Arch, very safe area and close by to many good restaurants. The best part is the Big Red City Bus stops right in front of the hotel. The location is an easy UBER ride to many of the tourist sites. The hotel serves an awesome breakfast with a large variety delicious of hot & cold foods. The dinner menu is also very good. The amenities are also very good. It offers excellent lounges and a beautiful court yard to relax in for drink, breakfast, coffee or to lounge by the pool. Fabulous Hotel - service from ALL staff was friendly and attentive. EVERY staff member we interacted with was friendly and will to help. Fabulous rooms, an incredible spread for breakfast, and just an all round excellent experience! Well done Bosele and team! - service this good doesn't happen by accident!

Friendly and conveniently located hotel in the heart of Melrose Arch. Elegant and stylish room design. Good security in the vicinity and the hotel itself. Breakfast was also excellent. Overall, a highly rated property that I recommend if needing to visit Melrose.

This is a nice, comfortable hotel in a very safe area of Johannesburg. The Melrose area has several security gates and once you are inside, the whole area is very neat and safe. The fire and ice hotel is part of the Marriott chain (as is the bigger hotel across the street). The rooms are decently sized, very clean and comfortable. I kind of liked the artwork as well (see pics). The bathroom wa kind of small but that was okay with me. The hotel has a very nice buffet breakfast and wifi (both were included in my room rate), a very nice restaurant and bar (open late) including an ‘adult milkshake’ bar which was pretty cool. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Overall great choice for visitors.

Karabo, I don't know how to thank you enough! You have been incredible over our stay. We were blown away by the very special touch of doing up our room for my husband's birthday - it really was so incredible. And on a side note - I have to just say that we were BLOWN AWAY by how absolutely brilliant all the staff are at your hotel. Every single person we dealt with was superbly professional, friendly beyond what we are used to here in Cape Town (sorry Cape Town, but you have ALOT to learn from JHB). Also, the beautiful gesture towards the kids at the breakfast buffet was so memorable. Even though our kids were not with us, we couldn't stop telling them about the special table set up with the kids treats - so thoughtful. Please convey our thanks to all the staff that were working this past weekend. I cannot wait to return. You have by no doubt made it impossible for us to stay anywhere else!!

I had the MOST amazing stay at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Johannesburg Melrose Arch. It felt like my home away from home and all of the staff felt like family. I had the smoothest check-in EVER thanks to Londiwe. She was SO welcoming, made me feel very appreciated as a Marriott Bonvoy member, and assured me she would be available for me throughout my stay. The room was beautifully appointed. I dined at the hotel restaurant my first night and received amazing service from Etwart and Busi. After 15 hours on a flight from the US and navigating customs, it was great to be greeted by beautiful smiles and warm energy at the hotel restaurant. the next day, I arrived at the breakfast area. Breakfast was phenomenal. I have a dairy-allergy. There were lots of fresh options available and the restaurant staff was more than willing to answer my questions regarding my dietary needs. I truly appreciated this. Each morning as I attended breakfast again, the team welcomed me with a bright smile, had my Americano ready, and continued to be attentive. The staff continued to make my stay feel easy and comfortable. One of the masterminds behind my AMAZING stay was Karabo. Karabo was always available to answer questions. He was very attentive and made me feel very welcomed. My checkout experience was a breeze thanks to Phemelo and Ntombi. I would also like to acknowledge Thamie, Abigail, And Gcina. There are really too many people to name. I have stayed at Marriott hotels all over the world and this experience was TOP-TIER all around! Being a solo traveler so far from home can feel intimidating. But staying at a hotel like this with such an excellent team, made a great trip PERFECT. On the last day, many of the staff came to wish me farewell and extend their wishes for safe travel. I am truly blessed. I have stayed at other hotels in Johannesburg before, but from here on out, I will ONLY be staying at the Protea Fire & Ice!!

We stayed at this hotel during a 2 night stay In Johannesburg before flying back home. It’s an easy 30 min ride from the airport and is located in a newer, safe, town-center type area with a mall, restaurants, and high-end shops just at the doorstep. I’m not sure if it was this hotel or just Johannesburg as compared to the other tourist destinations in South Africa, but the service was a bit lacking here. My husband is a platinum elite member and usually gets extra perks and great service but this was not the case. It may have been because we booked through a travel agency, but in any case, for a Marriott property, it was not the most welcoming. The property is very conveniently located with nice new-appearing rooms (although the shower is actually in the room as others said to save space most likely). The shower being in the room is separated by a curtain but could be awkward for travelers who are not couples. There is a nice pool as well. Overall, it worked fine for our short stay and we felt safe walking around but were advised by the hotel not to venture out as just outside the complex are some unsafe areas.
