Oh dear!! Looking at the pictures, we arrived here, with hopes, of quirky rooms with character!! But, in reality we got, a small dark room, with peeling paint work, tiny bed, a bathroom that looked like something from a old horror movie.. The bath was sunken, so people with mobility or balance problems beware! Also handheld shower hose.. Also the smell of drains was prominent.. The bed was hilarious, my partner's feet were hanging out the end!! Everything just seemed dusty and musty.. Some of the staff were friendly, but we didn't have much interaction as we spent most of our time in the city sightseeing.. I feel quite sad, as it was so disappointing, and felt totally mislead by the photos.. Traveler beware!! What you see, is not what you get!!!...

Stayed early July 2024. This hotel's website photos do not represent the poor quality of the rooms on offer. They are very old, no air-conditioning, tiny TV, leaking shower and flooded bathroom. Travelling with another couple who also expressed similar comments. The bar and restaurant were also both closed until further notice. Definitely a very poor hotel to be missed.

Stayed over new year for 4 nights. I am 6 months pregnant. Had the superior room, toilet cubicle too small could not shut door. Don’t let me forget about the raised toilet! My feet didn’t touch the floor!! Horrific. I cried as I go to the toilet 5 times in the night and it was so uncomfortable. The bath was odd shape so could not use as would not of been able to get out. Partner had to hose me down! Bathroom ‘door’ was netting so I had no privacy with using toilet or bath!! Had to swap rooms as not practical but wasn’t able to until night 3 and 4. We were put in standard room with shower thank god but wasn’t given compensation for downgrading room, not even complimentary breakfast. Safe to say standard room was more practice than superior room but smaller. Rooms- even superior, very basic, no cupboards/space to unpack, very small towels, couldn’t even fit round me haha! No shampoo or conditioner, no hot drink facilities, no complimentary water! We tried breakfast one morning only, not worth 16 euros each!!! Rustic/gothic = outdated, basic and Quirky = not practice or comfortable Reception very polite and helpful to certain extent. Unfortunately fire alarm went off early on our first morning when we were so tired from the flight. So basically our ‘baby moon’ holiday- the last before baby arrives was not comfortable or dignified therefore not romantic! Very unimpressed and inconvenienced pregnant woman = not happy or impressed!

Rooms very basic, no tea coffee facilities, very noisy, more like a hostel than hotel. Only supplied with two coat hangers no wardrobe no draws, one towel between two no shower / body soaps. Bed very low to floor so no good if you have back problems. Wouldn’t recommend

Absolutely awful, I have never been more misled by a hotel in all my years of travelling. I booked a room for myself and my friend and trusted that it was big enough for two. As we climbed the stairs the smell of smoke on the 2nd and 4th floor was so strong, on entering the room, there was no natural light, the door did not reach the floor, it was so small and so dark, the lights did not turn on and it smelled of smoke. I went straight down and on arrival we were told it was the only room left, when we complained another room was suddenly available, it was no better than the first. we did not touch anything in either room, only door handles, we were told at reception we should have asked to see the rooms first. I was told I would be issued a full refund within a week. No refund has been given and I am being ignored now with all emails I have sent. Apparently the hotel owner has ill health. Do not be fooled by any of the pictures, it is outdated, stinks of smoke and dishonest service from the staff.

Excellent location- safe and convenient. Full of quirky period character, clean, comfortable, reasonably quiet. Rooms are on the small side, but it was just my son and I and we didn't plan on sitting in a hotel room while here. If you love sleek modern hotels, you might hate it - but if you think modern hotels are boring and soulless you'll probably love it. I saw some reviews that complained about the windows. There is a shutter over the part of our window that opens, which seems reasonable for safety as well as privacy. I've included a photo. Without air conditioning, it is good to be able to open the window.

I had a great stay at Le Berger! The hotel has such a unique history. I had a superior room (-09; Blanche) and I had plenty of room for myself for the week. The rooms are different from a modern hotel room but it had all the necessities for an enjoyable stay. First the rooms are beautifully appointed! The lighting in the room was soft and there were interesting details (mirrors) throughout the room. Even though the windows didn’t offer a view (read the history), there was plenty of natural light. The bed was very comfortable for me (probably medium-firm) and sat lower to the ground than being the typical height on a frame. There were 2 types of pillows, firm foam and softer synthetic. There were plenty of outlets in the right places, which can be a concern with historic properties. No USB ports, haha! There was a shelf above the Bathroom sink to spread out, but it would have been nice to have a small mirror closer to the sink for putting on make-up, contacts, etc. As a historic hotel, noise travels easily between walls so you can hear other guests coming and going but everyone was respectful of the noise after 10pm. The street is very quiet and the garden area by the pool settled down by bedtime. The desk staff were helpful, polite, and accommodating. Each person always greeted me with a smile. I would definitely stay there again. It was easy to get to from the airport. It’s about 40 mins on bus 12 from the airport to Trone and a 10 min walk from there. Just be sure to get the right bus ticket because there is a different pass for leaving the airport (~7 euros). A normal bus pass will take you back (~2-3 euros).

I have mix feelings on this hotel. Starting by the reception: service was very good, everybody very friendly and helpful. Same in the restaurant and breakfast area. Decoration was also nice, not too cold hotel decor but not too much “warm” either. However, the rooms are weird. I understand the mood and the history, but it could be less dark and a bit less “historical” as it looked like the room was 100 years old. I would have appreciated also some place to work.
