Hanamizuki Onsen Ryokan

I would like to share my recent experience at this Japanese ryokan. Upon arrival, there was no one at the reception, so I pressed the bell at the front desk. After a few minutes of waiting without a response, I pressed it again. Eventually, a staff member—possibly the owner—came to check us in. While she showed us to our room and explained some housekeeping rules, she blamed me for pressing the bell twice, claiming I had woken her child. I mentioned our interest in having a barbecue, which was listed as an available option on the booking website with a fee of 1,500 yen per person for using the barbecue facilities. However, we were told that we had to clean up, pack the trash, and wash the dishes afterward. Additionally, we were requested to finish the barbecue by 9 PM. As we were nearly done, just five minutes before the deadline, the staff member approached us with an angry expression, insisting we wrap up immediately. Using the barbecue tongs, she disturbed our food and pushed it under the grill before leaving. We had no choice but to clean the area and finish washing the dishes ourselves in the kitchen. When we were ready for bed, we discovered a large spider in our room. I reluctantly pressed the bell for assistance, knowing it might wake her child. Initially, she dismissed my concern, claiming it had never happened before. Once she saw the spider, she knocked on the doors of other guests for help, but by then it was past 11 PM, and no one answered. She eventually grabbed some pesticide and sprayed it over the spider, but since all the windows were shut, the spider remained in the room. After some insistence, she finally agreed to change our room. Additionally, the requirement for guests to schedule bathroom and onsen usage was inconvenient, especially during the hot summer weather. The onsen was also slippery, and the shampoo and shower gels were mostly empty and not refilled. Given these issues, this has been my worst experience at a Japanese ryokan to date. The hotel's staff is pleasant and accommodating. The surroundings are peaceful. The decor is Japanese, allowing foreign guests to feel the ambience.
