This was one of the very best SYHA hostels that I've visited. The people running it were very hospitable and concerned for their visitors. In many ways you could see how thoughtful they had been to make it a good and interesting experience for all. The kitchen, common room, showers, drying room etc were all excellent. I recommend it heartily.

Great hostel! Such welcoming hosts. Clean room with clean sheets (though tiny bit of a musty smell near sink, but would say rest of room fine) Kitchen large and had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again should we revisit islay.

Having never stayed in a youth hostel before and being a single middle aged woman, I was a little apprehensive. I'd booked 2 nights accommodation so I could be near to my friends who were in the adjacent hotel. I was so well looked after by the couple who run the hostel that I soon felt very at ease. My room was comfortable and a decent size with 2 single beds and a sink. All bed linen and one towel are provided. The showers and ladies toilets were just opposite my room so not being ensuite wasn't an issue. Breakfast (paid for separately) was more than sufficient, help yourself to freshly made coffee, toast, yoghurt, fruit, cereals. Milk and coffee also avaliable free of charge if you want to make a drink late at night. The facilities are excellent although I have nothing to compare them with. A very large well-equipped kitchen and dining room and a separate sitting room. All very clean. Other quests while I was there were all adults so I didn't feel an odd one out amongst a lot of youths as I had expected. What a fantastic location too, right on the beach.

Let's start with the fact this hostel is literally on a beach and when you wash your dishes you have a serene view over the bay. Add that the staff email you in advance with very useful information regarding checking ferry statuses and booking restaurants in advance. The hostel is very clean and has recently refurbished bathrooms and a superb drying room. A cosy lounge and sizeable kitchen makes it a very pleasant stay.

Lorna and Karl are exceptional. They went above and beyond to help us during our recent stay. The hostel itself is very well run and has everything you would need for a comfortable break away. Spotlessly clean, warm, welcoming and environmentally responsible. It’s also in a very beautiful location. I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to Islay, regardless of your demographic.
