Birchwood Manor

Great location in a convenient spot directly across the road from Woolworths. The room was comfortable and check-in was easy and hassle-free. The only downside was that there was an additional coin-operated charge for laundry facilities.

The Birchwood Manor Motel is the best motel we have stayed at in New Zealand. Starting with a friendly and helpful welcome on reception we found our upstairs room to be outstanding. It had a large lounge with two couches a dining table, three sit up chairs, a flat screen TV, reasonable free wi-fi, a coffee table, a kitchen area equipped with a double hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, ample supplies of coffee, tea and milk. The bedroom had a comfy double bed and a single. The lounge also had a single bed at one end. The bathroom and shower were excellent and there was a separate en suite toilet. Everything about the place was first class – new, fresh, clean and serviced. We paid £173 for two nights. We used the laundry as well – free detergent and only $4 in total to wash and dry a full load of clothes. Invercargill surprised us – a modern city with a historic centre and some genuine old buildings. Also an amazing park with fabulous flowers, a small walk through aviary and an animal enclosure with some Tuataras. We also spent a carefree afternoon on Oreti beach – with its wide sands and rough but shallow surf. A good place to nestle in the sand dunes and get an all over tan. Altogether a fabulous place to visit.

Clean, tidy, with a friendly host. Good sized room, comfortable bed and seating. Really good value. Town about 1 km walk. TripAdvisor seem to have a minimum 200 word review requirement. Not sure why. What else do you need to know? I appreciate that sometimes a longer review is helpful but not always.

We booked for two nights stays. However, the motel checked us out from our room without any attempt to contact us on day 2 when my husband and I were out enjoying a private tour of the Catlin cost. The motel staff touched all our belongings, including toiletries, packed a bag, and threw most of the fresh foods that we bought for supper for the night and breakfast for the following day. The motel blamed us for this incident simply because my husband had handed the key to the reception staff before heading out for the tour. Well, we did not ask them to check us out we asked them to keep the room key in the reception until we return from the tour. After a long conversation with the onsite manager, we finally received a room key but not the same room we stayed in on our 1st night. The manager also handed our luggage packed by a motel staff and a plastic bag with some food items that were not being thrown away for some reason. We wrote a complaint email to the management team about this incident upon returning from our holiday. However, the first and the last response that we had received was still the same, blaming us instead of apologizing. We wrote back to ask for formal apologies and compensation for the food items they have decided to throw away. But they have ignored us, and we haven't heard back from them in multiple attempts. I am very upset that the motel management still hasn't apologized, and they rather blamed the quests. This absurd thing happened in this motel. Compensate us for the foods that the birch wood manor motel arbitrarily removed when were traveling. I booked a 1bedroom apartment, but there was no bathtub. 27~29/Nov/2021

Very clean and tidy. Generous sized room. If staying for three days or more would be very comfortable. Sheets and beds of wood quality and heating very effective and self controllable radiators… essential in Winter. No road noise… easy parking and so well placed to get to shops and a huge range of restaurants . Went to nearby level one. Longish but good walk… or so my fit bit tells me. Only issues would be: the front door a bit dodgy in its frame. Provision of a door stop comforting. Second issue the led ceiling lights are all a bit bright. Especially in bedroom . Needs a bedside dimmable light.
