"That was one of our best stays in Japan during this trip! The hotel is just opposite the JR station, bright and clean. Rooms are large and comfortable. Amenities and Drinks are made available to the guests and surprise: ice cream is free too! (My kids were living their dreams eating ice cream all day long!).
And the breakfast: high quality, great choice of tasty dishes and smooth service. That was a treat! Will definitely come back and stay longer!"

"The hot spring area is very convenient to use wherever you go. There is also a foot bath at the door of the accommodation, so you can soak your feet before going out to warm up your body before leaving👍. It's a pity that the Zao Cable Car is closed, so you can only come back to experience it next winter😤"

"A Japanese-style hotel with a great location. The No. 4 cable car station is less than 100 meters away, which is very convenient for skiing. The hotel is quite old. Although the facilities are a bit old, there is no separate shower in the room (you can only take a shower in the hot spring public bath), only a washbasin and a toilet, but the overall style is very Japanese, and the food and service are very good. In particular, the hotel's hot spring is very good. After soaking, the skin is smooth. The open-air hot spring downstairs can also be bathed while watching the snow, which is really a wonderful enjoyment.
The hotel can provide short-distance pick-up and drop-off services, such as from the Zao bus station to the hotel or from the hotel to the ski lift station, etc., just call the hotel front desk. The hotel service staff mainly speaks Japanese, but can also communicate in simple English."

"These newer Daiwa hotel are best. We've stayed in Yamagata, Koriyama, and Morioka they're very similarily designed and decor. They're better then other Daiwa in other cities. Their moderate Twins allows extra sofa bed is perfect fit for our family of 4 to sleep comfortably while staying together. Everything is just perfect with these newer built Daiwa hotels if you can find a good price on them."

"Super close to the train station. The rooms are comfy and bright. The staff were incredibly friendly, warm, and attentive. Breakfast was pretty standard, similar to what you'd get at a Toyoko Inn, with a lot of the items seemingly being prepared from frozen. It's definitely on my list for my next visit to Yamagata!"

"The hotel is located in the city of Yamagata. You need to transfer to the JR station to get there by bus. If you arrive too late, you may not be able to take the bus to the city. It is recommended for self-driving tourists. Although the hotel is quite historic, the rooms are clean and the facilities are good. There is a lawson and a hot spring for guests in the basement. There is also a hotel-only indoor parking lot next to it, which costs 700 yen per night. If you just want to park overnight, there are other cheaper parking options nearby. There are also many restaurant options nearby."

"When we arrived, we were very happy to find a spacious and relaxing atmosphere.
It was a long time since we last had a private room together as a couple, so we were looking forward to it.
The view from the room was also very good and we were satisfied, but the baths were small and there were only two types, one open-air bath and one inside the building, so we were a little disappointed. However, there were two saunas, they lent us swimsuits, and we were happy that yukatas were free. However, what impressed us the most was that the staff member took a photo of the couple and asked us if we wanted one, and we were so touched that we wanted to go back again.
It was hard to take a photo of the couple, so it felt like we were traveling alone, haha
I want to go again.
Oh! I recommend the spacious space where you can read a book."

AAnonymous UserWhen I made the reservation, there were only a few rooms left. I sent an email to the hotel to ask if it was possible to accommodate three people in a room, as I wanted to add more people, but the hotel did not respond. Later, when I arrived at the hotel, I had to ask my friend to book a hotel nearby. Because the location is very remote and we arrived late, the room we bought included dinner, but the hotel was unwilling to give it to an extra friend to dine together. They were also very strict. Even if we wanted to pay, they were unwilling to give us an extra seat to dine together. They even wanted to kick our friends out. When we asked our friends to stay in the room, someone would come to the room and knock on the door to kick us out. The experience on the first day was not very good. We are very polite guests and we don't make noise or disturb other guests, but it is hard to understand how the hotel treats guests. Still keep saying だめだめだめ
GGuest UserEven though we called the hotel stating that we would be late for the check-in and dinner as there was heavy snow in the highway. The staff postponed it to 730. However, the snow was so heavy, we lost our way in town and we arrived at 8:10. The staff saying that we were too late and rejected to provide any food for us. we had to walk downhill to the town to find our own dinner. however, on the second night of our stay, we noticed that the other guests were having dinner at 9:10 when we passed by the restaurant. We know that we were late, but I believed that hotel is in the hospitality industry, the staff have to be considerate to the guests. as we were not meant to be late on purpose, just because of the bad weather outside, we couldn’t drive fast. We were in the highway 2 1/2 hours without any food and drink in the hope of arriving on time.
BBaresiThere was a problem when reserving the shuttle bus. The hotel required that the shuttle bus be reserved three days in advance, but the hotel must be notified through the form on the official website. Two of the two items in the form were to fill in the phone number and hiragana. Hiragana can also be found on the Internet. I tried filling in my home phone number, but it didn't pass the check on the form, so the notification couldn't be sent. The online voice call using Trip.com only has Japanese phone recording, so it must have been after office hours.
I once asked Trip.com customer service to help contact the hotel and asked for a real reservation or email address, but the reservation was rejected and the email was not responded to.
The whole process gave the impression that the hotel did not want guests to successfully reserve a shuttle bus. I hope the hotel can improve this. The name always has the word ”international” in it, so I hope the service can also connect to international customers.
ZZoeAbsolutely lovely place. At first I thought I'd be uncomfortable with how spaceous the room was (I'm a very jumpy solo traveller), but the room was just so comfy with an excellent view. The heater was a bit hot, but there was an electric fan too, so all was great.
The hotel allows you to have a free 50 minute private bath each night, and the private baths are amazing, able to accommodate up to five persons and with windows to let in the light and stuff. Excellent onsen water -- very acidic and very hot. Takes some time getting used to the heat, but once you do it's a heavenly experience. There are also public baths (free of charge) that you could enjoy throughout the night and into early morning (they're closed for cleaning only during 9-12 in the morning), one indoor and one outdoor, both connected to one another. The outdoor one is a bit small, but it's so refreshing to be able to flee from the stifling indoor onsen to enjoy the crisp winter air while soaking up in the heat.
NNetotrevinoWoah! This is one of the best ryokans we’ve been to. The staff was super attentive and could speak some English, the rooms were amazing (see the photos!). The onsen in the room was fantastic so there was no need for us to go to the public or private onsen downstairs.
The hotel is located 3 minutes away from the bus station and conveniently situated near everything. We’ve stayed at other ryokans but this one was top notch! We strongly recommend to stay at this place and will try to come back again with friends and family. Oh! The food was wow, too! We had breakfasts and dinners included and the sukiyaki dinner offered Yamagata A5 meat which was to die for. Breakfast was also great!
RRosina KimIt’s quite a big hotel, 3 buildings are connected and there are many rooms. The rooms are a bit outdated but still maintained well. Service was good and flexible. Transportation to the village is quite necessary when the roads are covered by snow, especially with luggage. They have free shuttle bus which is great.
Best parts: 1. Dinner semi-buffet has unlimited alcoholic beverages including local sake, draft beer and wines. 2. Ski & board rental shop is right outside of the hotel. Although hotel only accept cash for the lift ticket, you can rent the gear (rental shop accepts credit card) and ski down the hill (20sec) to the cable ticket counter to buy ticket, pay by credit card. The location has lifts 5,6 and cable 4
AAnonymous UserThere was a little bit of a problem with the pick-up at Zao Onsen Station at the beginning. The operator's English was not very good, but we were finally picked up! Then the hotel is relatively old, but very clean! On the last day when we were about to leave, we asked if we needed to pick up guests at the station, and then they just helped us to pick up at the station, so the round-trip pick-up service was very good!
YYI-HSIANGThe location is great. It is close to Zao Onsen ski resort, bus station, and restaurants. It is in the middle, and it takes about 5-7 minutes to walk.
Friendly service, the boss is good in English, and her friends grew up in Japan when they were young, so most of their friends communicate directly.
The room is clean and warm. In addition to the wardrobe, there is a drying rack that can be used for extra snow, equipped with a refrigerator and a heater.
There are massage chairs in the lobby on the first floor.
Value-added offers: The hotel offers a day pass for the cable car, a free pass for public hot springs, and a discount coupon for the best rental ski rental (500-1000)
Go to Zao and check in later! Great value Japanese style hotel.
Thank you Yoshida :)
SshawndaikiExcellent location short walk from Yamagata station.
A better location might be located on the east side of Yamagata station as there are more food and beverage and convenience stores available.
Dated property but cozy and functional. A man made onsen within the property doesn’t hurt. We also had a rental car and overnight parking was ¥600.
Complimentary breakfast however you must account for time and occupancy, we did not have time to enjoy it due to the lines.
Service was top notch. Hotel was helpful with directions and translation.
A senior lady went the extra mile to assist with contacting next hotel and even considered train timings as well as advising us to stay in Yamagata and not go early as there was nothing available in the next onsen town.
