"Overall is average. If i have better options, i will try for sure but surely not many choices in this small town...."
Once home to Prince Rupert - grandson of King James I - this charming hotel has its own place in the history of medieval Shrewsbury. The Mansion House is the oldest part of the hotel dating back to 1150. It houses five suites with original features and some have four-poster beds. A 15th century suite with original oak beams is also available. The hotel has three restaurants plus Camellias Tea Rooms and a garden courtyard that offers guests a quiet haven. Its health club features a Jacuzzi and a gymnasium. Located in the heart of the town guided tours of Shrewsbury can be arranged by the hotel. Parking is chargeable. A Classic British Hotel / CB. Stay inspired.
"We booked for the Shrewsbury School speech day and leavers ball so the whole town was fully booked. Thankfully there was a suite available at my favourite local hotel. We needed a room for 3 and the hotel staff were super helpful in accommodating our needs. It’s family owned and the culture of care is pervasive. It’s a hotel where the staff like to say yes. Not to mention the character of the hotel itself. It’s a mixture of 12th, 15th and 17th century architecture forming an elaborate maze of rooms covering the block. The Matthews family have truly created a 5 star hotel experience. I was even offered a glass of sherry by the night watchman when I checked in on once at 1am. I cannot recommend this hotel enough."

"We asked for a quiet room and were given one at the front on the main road which was anything but quiet, the room did not live up to the pictures and needed some work, but it was reasonably priced and servicable. We didn't eat here but our drinks on the first night was almost £12 for a large gin and a pint, that was with a 10% discount as we were staying there.
The cons were not enough to warrant a complaint but we wouldn't book here again"

Outstanding
HHameed966From the very start, Rebecca was an absolute star. Her proactive communication and all the useful information she shared made us feel confident we were in for a lovely stay and we truly were. She greeted us on a rainy day with a big smile that instantly made us feel at home. The house is beautifully set among rare farmlands, offering peace and scenic charm. Our room, which had a private balcony, gave us stunning countryside views. Having binoculars provided in the room was such a thoughtful touch we loved watching the birds while relaxing outside. The place itself is full of delightful details board games both in the room and the lobby, Sky and Netflix for cozy evenings, and a nice selection of snacks and small bites available.Breakfast was served with a view, and it was excellent fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. My wife and I truly enjoyed every part of our stay, and we will definitely be coming back.
SSheryl AnnLovely building, very good service and in a quiet but convenient location for Wem High St.
Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice.
I had a single room overlooking the beautiful grounds. The room and en-suite were a little tired and could do with a refresh but the bed was comfortable and the room spacious and full of Georgian character.
The duvet weight was too heavy for summer so I slept under a throw with the window open as it was a very warm night. The staff were helpful and attentive. The Old Rectory is good value and I would stay there again.
GGuest UserNo choice of cooked breakfast , no room service on first day and had to ask for clean towels, no shower gel- shampoo as advertised, dangerous exit on to highway - needs mirrors, faulty light switch for bathroom which was replaced after 2 days
RRowanHoensI booked 4 nights bed and breakfast, they were renovating the kitchen the 1st two days so there was no breakfast, these things happen but they also did not try to make it right once. Don’t seem very guest focused at all.
AAnonymous UserThe room had alot including a fridge, iron, iron board, cooling fan, hair dryer. The spa had an ice room steam rooms saunas heated pool and a few other spa treats I've forgot lol really good stay the breakfast is a buffet continental plus English breakfast.
GGuest UserI only booked for one night to break our journey to North Wales from London, so my expectations were not that high, I just wanted a bed for the night.
The location was within walking distance from Shrewsbury station, down a small alley off the main shopping street. I didn't realise it would get quite noisy, and there was actually a band playing in the pub the night of our stay - our room was directly above it! So we went to bed late! For some this could've been a disaster, but saw the funny side and at least the band were playing songs I liked, and I travelled with ear plugs so did manage to get to sleep. The room was well equipped, comfortable & clean besides this.
I had booked breakfast but due to not realising what time it would start from and having to be on an early train, actually couldn't stay for it. To compensate the lady who checked us in kindly offered to make us lunch instead, so we had some sandwiches, nuts, crisps and snacks from the bar to take with us, which I appreciated, as I was travelling with my young son.
GGuest UserA lovely hotel plenty of history staff is really nice. Breakfast was excellent. If we needed any information where to go to or how to get there the staff told us I would book there again hopefully next year.
GGuest UserBrilliant location, being newly refurbished, Was quite clean, Tell my partner pull back the bedding and there was a big stain on one of the duvets. New wet room with shower, Shower was freezing cold, Couldn’t get any warmth from it at all.
Lady that works in the pub down below, Showed as to our room, she was really lovely. us to our room she was very nice. Just very disappointed with the shower.
