Drury Inn & Suites Independence Kansas City

My work almost exclusively utilizes Drury hotels. It is always appreciated that the hotel not only provides a hot breakfast but they also provide a hot evening snack. That being said, I cannot recommend the meatballs. The texture is just off. The flavor was okay but if you have a texture issue like I do I would stay away. I will also say that they seemed to have a hard time keeping up with the demand for their evening meal while I was here. That being said, this Drury has a bar inside of it that also provides food for an additional price. You cannot get it delivered as room service but honestly it's just right off the elevators so no big deal. The food was actually pretty good. The service was wonderful. And the atmosphere was one in which you could pretty easily relax in. Breakfast was phenomenal as is par for a Drury. However, this one goes above and beyond. Not only do you have the traditional eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, and waffle options, they also make pancakes for you! The staff was friendly and quick to offer assistance when it came to figuring out how something is made/what is in it. The room was comfortable and clean, like clean clean. I always appreciate that they realize I am there for work and put me at the far end of the hall so that I don't have to deal with the noise of the elevator and other people. I actually had great luck with the blackout curtains here. They overlapped properly to ensure that they actually blacked out the outside light, which I greatly appreciate. The only thing I wish I could figure out is how to stop the red light from the TV, the green light from the thermostat, and the random blinky light near the ceiling (pretty sure this is the smoke detector). It is an easy on and off from the interstate and there are other food options readily nearby. Honestly, every one was very friendly and quick to help. It is a hotel I would stay at again.

Mold on my shower curtain and on the drain. Water dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom (luckily into the tub). Toilet would sound like a washing machine at times. Bathroom lights would fade in and out which makes it hard to get ready. Peeling paint, doors stuck and had to be body slammed open, smell of **** and cigarettes, something very gross on the wall in our bathroom. Outlets on the sides of the beds did not work and there was trash right outside our door from before we checked in that was still there when we checked out. Not just a little. A lot. And it smelled. We notified the front desk about it. Somethings they couldn't do anything about and we knew that the hotel was booked full all of them were. But the trash. Way way over paid for considering the only amenity that was left on the list was free parking. No pool (It was green water), no fitness center, no breakfast which no one mentioned when we checked in, it was ONLY posted on the breakfast nook door, so you only saw it when you came down for breakdfast (this was part of the reason we booked here and not another hotel that was somewhat cheaper).. 3 small pillows on the king size bed that looked pretty sketchy. We went to biglot and bought a comforter set that came with sheets on clearance for $17 and 2 full size pillows to sleep on. I will likely NOT stay at a Quality Inn again and I am really hoping the rash I developed after showering is not from the mold. I called for a partial refund and was told no because we completed the stay. Well yes we did. Every hotel was booked or I would have left and I didn't know part of the hotel package I was paying for was not available. I will likely be calling the Attorney Generals office as the cost was almost 4x's their normal rate - and again I only wanted a partial refund for not having a pool or breakfast. Not happy about showering with mold!

Let me start by saying that the ladies who worked in the office for my first two days were wonderful. The location is also very convenient. But that's where the positives end. So here we go... I was put in room 240. End room, minimal neighbors, cool. Except that it wasn't. First, my door did not shut. It wasn't just that the door didn't swing itself shut, but the door legitimately did not shut and lock like a hotel room door is supposed to. I had to reinsert my key card so that I could turn the knob and shimmy the door locked into place before I left my room. The dead bolt also did not line up correctly. The refrigerator was all dented up. The bathroom sink was clogged. The blankets on the bed were practically non-existent. There was a sheet but no comforter. The top blanket was extremely thin and had what appeared to be cigarette holes in it. The pillows were also lumpy and thin. The bed was hard and not comfortable. But it gets worse... I didn't check in until about 9:30 p.m. I got in my room about 10, unpacked a few things, realized there were a few issues, and decided to let it slide. I had to wash my car and to the grocery store for the weekend. I get back to my room around midnight and turn on the heat. Why the heat wasn't already on in January in the Midwest, I'm not sure, but it wasn't. So I turn on the heat and noticed that it's on high and set to 90°. So I turned it down to about 72. I fall asleep while using my computer. I wake up about 2:30 in the morning absolutely FREEZING! The ”heat” had not stopped running, and it was just blowing cold air straight at the bed. I had driven 9 hours, I was exhausted, I had to be up in a couple of hours. The recording when you call the hotel says that the office closes at 11:00 p.m. At 3:00 in the morning I was not trying to figure out how to get ahold of someone and trying to move all of my clothes, all of my toiletries, and all of my groceries. So I grabbed a hoodie, I bundled up the best that I could in my sheet and my half of a comforter, or whatever you want to call it, and I got into the fetal position for the next 5 hours. I called the hotel at 8:00 a.m. the next morning, and she was able to move me to a new room. This room was better but still not great. There are two sets of drawers for your clothes and both were damaged. The toilet did not flush properly. I had to kind of give it a test flush, and then a second or third flush would actually get it to flush. The new room did have a third blanket on the bed, which was big, fluffy, and warm. I could have used that in the first room that didn't have heat! I asked for a late check out upon check-in, and was told that a 12:00 p.m. check out would be fine. At 11:20 a.m., I hear someone screaming so loud that I thought they were in my room. I had just gotten out of the shower and I jumped and slammed the bathroom door thinking that someone was actually in my room. I discovered that it was the manager, or whoever, doing their rounds checking the roo

The room is big, there is a creek next to the hotel, you can walk along the river. There is free breakfast and parking lot, and it is relatively close to the highway and costco, so it is convenient to travel.

Many thanks to the previous TripAdvisor reviewers who led us to consider this hotel. We were in Missouri for about a week and stayed here. We interacted with three different staff members, all of whom were very courteous and efficient. We could find no fault with our room. It was spacious, very clean, comfortable, cool, with good seating and work space. Kitchen area very nice. Good-sized TV and excellent channel selection. FREE LAUNDRY FACILITIES! Nice convenience store in lobby. Lots of parking. Set back from road so we heard no noise. Located in an area with easy access to I-70, a mall area nearby, and a number of inexpensive and middle-range restaurants nearby. Very good value for money. We would certainly look to stay here again if we need to be in the area.
