We stayed at the Wilderness Hotel Nangu for 5 nights in December 2024. From the moment we arrived we were really impressed and were very excited about our stay. We had chosen to spend our first night in one of the Aurora log cabins and move to the Panorama log cabin for the remainder of our stay. Both rooms were good but the Panorama was fabulous and even better than the photos on the website- coming back after a day of activities it was amazing to be able to use the jacuzzi and sauna. The dining area/bar was lovely and the food was fantastic, really tasty and well presented. The staff were all great, very helpful and always smiling. The activities (we had the arctic experience package) were well organised and very enjoyable but thank goodness for the suits that the hotel provided as it was very cold on the days that we did the husky sleigh ride and snowmobile adventure. I would definitely recommend taking lots of layers and foot and hand warmers if you are doing these activities, because you aren't moving very much you can get cold very quickly. We saw the Northern lights briefly one night (we were alerted by the alarm that you can obtain from the reception for a smallish fee- definitely worth it) Due to Lake Inari not being fully frozen we did have to be driven to two of the activities and the lunch was venue was also changed. This wasn't a problem however as we got to see two of the other Wilderness hotels which were both nice although much 'livelier' as they are not adults only. If you want a more chilled/quieter experience then I would recommend Nangu. All in all we had the most amazing time and would return in a heartbeat. Nangu really is a magical place and the peace and the scenery is second to none. There is nothing I can think of which would have improved our experience

We had a fantastic stay in the beginning of January 2024. Our Standard Room without sauna (all other rooms/cabins were booked) was in a row with little huts. The room was big and cosy. You can book private time slots in a sauna viewing the frozen lake via reception. The activities are great fun (we did husky sled ride, reindeer farm visit, snow shoe walking) in small groups and the trips are well organized. Should you need warm clothes you can borrow everything for free. Snow suit, shoes, woollen socks, helmet, ….We brought our own clothes but I borrowed a snow suit for the husky ride . At arrival we had -21 C degrees (-5,8 F). Was not bad at all. It only feels very cold when you have an icy wind in addition. Dinner is delicious !!! Breakfast was horrible gluten free bread o n l y (in the evening they had normal freshly made yummy bread) & gluten free pancake dough, lactose free cheese (this is the only cheese available in Finland, because people there can not tolerate lactose). Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I was not impressed. The staff was cheerful, helpful and always asked about your day. They must have heard every activity story a million times but they still get excited with you. Very sweet. In the beginning of January it was still very dark, (sun) rise of light about 10am and sunset about 2 pm. We did not see the northern lights. One fellow guest had been at the hotel at the exact days the year before and saw them every day (and therefore had booked the same dates 2024 ;-). So you never know. It is an adults only hotel and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Wifi only works at reception = the big house with guest lounge/breakfast&dinner room. Advice: Bring a special spray or anti fog wipes if you wear glasses. You need it when you wear a balaclava or scarf over your nose. Also heat pads for you shoes are great, I was happy with the pads from the heat company. I loved it there and would come again.

Had a fantastic holiday at Nangu. The complex really is in the middle of nowhere, 30mins drive from the nearest town, and the setting is stunningly beautiful. We had a few days in a panoramic log cabin, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking through the trees onto Lake Inari, and it was a very good choice. We woke at 3am to find the Northern Lights were out, and we just sat on the end of the bed for an hour watching them. Sitting in a hot tub on the balcony at minus 30C wearing a beanie was odd but very relaxing. For the final night we stayed in a Lake Inari Aurora Hut, where half the walls and ceiling are glass. It was comfortable and surprisingly toasty but very small, the staff advised us to leave our large cases at reception. Be warned, the huts have no running water, so there bottles and flasks for drinking, and a chemical toilet with hand wipes. The food was fantastic. Buffet breakfast and lunch, with loads of options. The main course at dinner was adequate (in size - quality was amazing) but not huge, so you might want to get extra at the starter buffet, again there are loads of options. All the excursions were very well organised and run, and the staff were lovely. The hotel ask you to wear the snowsuit, boots and gloves they provide for the excursions, to protect your own clothes. Since one of the sled dogs wee'd on someone's trousers, this was probably a good idea! Btw, the sled dogs were gorgeous, and we got chance for cuddles after the ride. Totally recommend.

What a fantastic visit we have just had at this amazing place. The scenery is breath taking, the staff are all friendly, and the whole place is well run and organised. We stayed for 4 nights in one of the aurora cabins. It was so nice to be able to lay and look for the aurora and at the stars. The cabin is comfortable , warm and cosy, and worth paying the little bit extra for. The activities are well planned the tour guides are very knowledgeable, we enjoyed 2 activities with Matti, who gave a great insight into area, nature and lifestyle. We enjoyed all of the activities but highlights of our trip was the husky safari, and snow shoeing. Now let's talk about food! You will not go hungry at Nangu. Breakfast is self service with plenty of options for everyone. lunch is also self service but is 3 courses. Starters is normally salads/ soup Main we had stew one day, and char the next Then there is some pudding. Dinner- also 3 courses. Starters is salads/ soup ( the soups are very good, and there is a great variety of salad options. But main and pudding are served. We.loved all the food, but there is only 1 option for main, or one vegetarian option. So we had reindeer steak, lamb shanks, perch, and a pork dish all very tasty. If your looking to stay here, do not hesitate, I would go back on a heartbeat.

Wow! What a place! Proper wilderness hotel, great accommodation, impressive catering, fantastic staff and excursions. We'd read few ambivalent reviews about the food but the food was really lovely. Alcohol prices not eye-wateringly expensive (for Scandinavia)..similar to Alpine ski resorts. Whole trip hugely exceeded our expectations. Saw Northern Lights 3 nights out of 4

We have just come back from the trip of a lifetime at Nangu, and cannot recommend it highly enough. From start to finish our stay was an absolute delight – staff are friendly and attentive and the whole setting is stunning. We were very lucky in that we were able to see the Northern Lights on 3 nights out of 4, which was an absolute dream come true! We booked via an agent – Aurora Zone – a package which included accommodation, all meals and activities. They were really helpful in swapping activities on our itinerary to meet our preferences, and putting our minds at ease regarding tight flight connection times…those connections really are guaranteed! We stayed for 3 nights in a standard double room, which was everything we needed – warm, practical, quiet and we had the best nights’ sleep we’ve had in ages in the pure darkness in their super comfortable beds. For the final night, we upgraded to a Panorama Log Cabin (we did this once we were there rather than in advance, and think this worked out the cheaper way to do it) – it was stunning in terms of the views and access to private hot tub and sauna, but as a room was less practical for the day to day activities (less storage space/hooks for kit and towels, no bin etc) and for this reason, if we returned we would probably look to do the same again – standard room for majority of time with a one night treat. We did have the option of upgrading to an aurora cabin, but staff put us off saying they were fairly small – we did not see inside so cannot offer any guidance there. The activities were well run, all the guides were friendly and helpful – we did the snowmobile safari, aurora camp, gentle snowshoeing and meet the reindeer. The kit provided was substantial (warm/waterproof boots, thick socks, full snow suit, mittens, plus balaclava and helmet for certain activities), just ensure you have the recommended base and mid layers to go underneath. The mistake we made was assuming it would be cold everywhere and only having thermals with us – you really don’t need warm pyjamas and some normal clothes for mealtimes etc will suffice as the bar/restaurant is lovely and warm. On that note, it’s no fashion show, no need to dress up for dinner etc, it’s perfectly acceptable to turn up in your ski trousers and a fleece! Finally, the food – we’d read mixed reviews before we went on the food and made sure we had packed some snacks for between mealtimes…but we were so well fed we didn’t touch them at all. Breakfast is a buffet of hot and cold options from bacon, sausages and beans, to waffles, yoghurt, cereals and fruit, as well as cold cuts, breads and pastries. Lunchtime and Dinnertime there was always a soup option as well as breads and salads as a buffet starter – always different from day to day - at lunch this would be followed by a buffet main, usually a meat and a veggie option with different accompaniments, while at dinner there would be a meat/fish or veggie option delivered to you at your table, fol

If you have ever collected berries or mushrooms, you know to keep quiet if you find a good spot. This is how I feel about Wilderness Hotel Nangu. I would love to keep this gem a secret. But then I remember that a hotel cannot survive without guests, so I have to reveal the secret. Anyone can put up a number of beautiful buildings and call it a hotel. The real art is to create an atmosphere within the buildings, where you feel welcome and special from the moment you arrive until you leave again. This is what the entire staff at Nangu manages to perfection. Thank you so much. We are home again, but our heads are still filled with amazing nature experiences in a part of the world we visited for the first, but definitely not for the last time. The only regret is that we should have booked six days instead of four.

Just returned from a 4 night break, and it was magical. The hotel is warm and cosy with friendly, helpful staff. The hotel surroundings are incredibly beautiful, perched just above the lake, and surrounded by forest. The winter gear provided was first class, but take plenty of hand and foot warmers. Activities ran like clockwork - we did the snow mobiling, snow shoeing, huskys and reindeer, and a night snow mobile trip. All the activities were great - but the huskys were my favourite. Thank you for a perfect once in a lifetime trip I will never forget.
