The hotel could benefit from position on a lake, traditional architekture, mountains behind …. but there is something missing, Too cold staff, not appropriate 5* service, instant noice ( even low level but disturbing) and tiny little things like no water in the room if you finish it first day, no apology for no running water until 8am, no smile during breakfast ….Just lady in spa showed empathy, the rest was just working

This hotel is fantastic! We stayed in the John Goodman room (I forget the exact number) and we enjoyed a beautiful view of the pond, spacious room, and separate toilet and shower rooms. The shower was very spacious, which is not always the case in EU bathrooms. Some hotel staff speak English including at the front desk (which is not the norm in this area) so we were very appreciative of that. There is parking on site, and it is walking distance to the town area. This is a great base to explore Harz National Park and surrounding areas. We loved the food at the hotel restaurant (we ate their two nights during our stay) and the breakfast buffet was incredible too - so many options! They also offer espresso coffee drinks too. Staff were friendly and attentive. We also enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi! There is a sauna and spa services available too. My only criticism (and this is common in EU hotels) is that our bed was not really a queen size but two beds pushed together. This means there is a small gap down the middle that is a bit uncomfortable for sleeping. Keep in mind that the Harz area is really geared towards German tourists and not foreigners. We honestly wish we had spent more time just enjoying the hotel! If I were ever to visit this area again this is the only place I would stay. I have German friends who are repeat visitors with good reason!

The lady at the reception was a bit old~fashioned asking immediately for creditcard and being quite strictly about dinner time schedule, but this are minor points. Have the Badehaus suite directly on the water, ducks and swans coming to your balcony. If you don’t like the demipension I would recommend the fresh forelle a la carte. This house deserves the three red houses in Michelin guide.

Hotel booked by our customer. Five star hotel, not! Beautiful location by the lake, unfortunately we were here in January! Rooms comfortable, however room service only every two days and water in room not replenished! Breakfast very good with good choices. Did not sample dinner as pricing double our business allowance. Nice bar area if you could entice a waiter to serve us eventually!

The location of the hotel is undoubtedly a highlight: It is located in a beautiful and quiet area right next to the trout pond, which creates a relaxed and picturesque atmosphere. However, there are a few points that urgently need improvement. The hotel is showing its age in many places. The rooms and bathrooms could urgently do with modernization in order to meet the standards of a 5-star hotel. The lack of air conditioning was particularly problematic, which made for a very unpleasant stay when the outside temperature was high. The broken TV in my room was also a small defect that should not be found in a hotel of this category. In addition, the constant lighting outside at night significantly disturbed sleep, which made the stay less restful. Unfortunately, the pool area was only partially in use, which severely limited the possibilities for use. The staff was another mixed point: some employees were friendly and helpful, but others seemed rather annoyed or snooty, which gave the feeling of not really being welcome. Overall, I'm afraid I have to say that the Hotel Zu den Rothen Forellen doesn't hold up compared to other 5-star hotels. The potential for an exceptional experience is there, but it urgently needs extensive renovations and service improvements to reach the high standards of this hotel category. In terms of service, I had mixed experiences. Some staff were very friendly and tried to make their stay pleasant. Unfortunately, there were also staff who seemed either stressed or indifferent, and at times I felt like I was more of a burden than a welcome guest.

Great hotel. This hotel leaves nothing to be desired and delivers what you expect. Great wellness area, great pool, etc. ...! The restaurant and breakfast are top-notch. But now for the best part: the staff are amazing, super friendly and helpful. They leave nothing to be desired and for me are the most important and biggest asset of the hotel. Absolutely recommendable.

The restaurant is extremely overpriced and the service extremely bad. We ordered a bottle of red wine before dinner. When asked which one we wanted, we asked for the wine list. The waiter brought the list, somewhat reluctantly. After making our selection, the waiter said "I knew it". When asked how he knew which wine we would choose, he said that he had to go to the cellar to find it. The wine was rather average. The bottle cost €48. The price in the shops was €9. I have never experienced a factor of 5 anywhere else. The food was good, but also overpriced. A fried trout for €42 is not easy to find. When we were considering whether we should have another round of schnapps at around 11 p.m., the waiter said "Please don't, he wants to go home too". Absolutely embarrassing for a 5-star hotel.

Beautiful country hotel at the foot of the Harz Mountains. Located in the middle of Ilsenburg by the trout pond. Wonderful view of the pond from the restaurant, wellness area/swimming pool. Very well-kept hotel, very friendly service. You feel completely at home. Small bar area for afternoons and evenings. Wellness and sauna (outdoor block sauna), make sure to book wellness appointments in advance. Beautiful swimming pool (whirlpool was out of order). Lots of loungers. We were there for a weekend (girls' weekend) and had a great time. Parking spaces right by the hotel, but it is also easy to get there by train (pick-up by the hotel at the train station can be booked or on foot - about 10 minutes). Beautiful rooms in a cozy country house style, spacious and decorated in warm colors. We had a view of the lake. Dinner and breakfast were very good. Great breakfast buffet with a large selection. Despite booking vegetarian and gluten-free, the selection was a bit limited for my girlfriend. We can only recommend it. Very relaxing.
