We stayed for a night at Chiltern Fox to attend a local event - the room was cosy and warm which was welcome on an unexpectedly chilly spring evening; the bed comfortable and the room has been recently renovated so in lovely condition. We slept very well as it was so quiet! Breakfast was delicious and our host was very attentive and kind. We will definitely stay here again for any future visits to the area! Thank you!

I booked a stay for the night of the 21st through Click Travel. Imagine my delight when I arrived to find the hotel completely closed! No one answered any phone calls, and I was given zero information on how to check in, despite the mysterious combination pad on one of the doors. I triple-checked my email confirmation and even rummaged through my junk box, but there was absolutely nothing. I called Click Travel, and guess what? They couldn't get hold of anyone via phone or email either. So, I had the pleasure of waiting until 7:30 PM just to avoid cancellation costs and rebook somewhere else. Truly an unbelievable level of service in this modern age. Bravo, You've really outdone yourselves.

Do NOT consider staying here! We were the only two guests dining on the first evening. The meal was VERY slow, luke warm and salty. We decided to dine elsewhere for the rest of our 3-night stay. Cooked breakfast on the first morning was again very very slow and the bread too hard to bite. A "new chef" started next morning - breakfast was better when it finally arrived but by then the other guests were discussing where else they could go for breakfast. On return at 8 pm that day we found the place deserted and the main building locked (our room was round the back with separate key entry). Luckily we had eaten elsewhere but the room had not been serviced and there was no milk for tea or coffee (and miles to the nearest possible shop). My wife then read some reviews to find reports of no staff turning up on Monday mornings and guests leaving without breakfast. We tried to ring the hotel number to discuss but the recorded message said the box was full - not surprising. In the morning I dressed early and went round to the main entrance to check. There bemused guests were starting to gather outside and a girl on her mobile said she had been sent there by an agency to start work at 7 am. With no sign of any other staff to open up she finally gave up and left at 8.30 by which time guests were starting to leave too (without breakfast which everyone had pre-booked and paid for). There was a food delivery on the ground outside the locked kitchen door and that was still lying there when we left hungry at 9 am. There seems little prospect of a refund since no one will answer the phone. The whole experience was frustrating, expensive and incomprehensible, both to us and the other guests. With several incredulous and hungry foreign guests present it was also extremely embarrassing. Clearly we and none of the ever guests will ever be back.

Stayed in one of the newly renovated suites on the ground floor, which were luxurious and comfortable. We went for a walking trip on the Ridgeway and to enjoy the other trals around the picturesque Hambleden Valley, and it didn't disappoint. The pie of the day was excellent and service was excellent.

Just had a Mothers' Day lunch at this very pretty and comfortable rural pub in the Chilterns for a family of 10. Despite only booking for 8 people, they very kindly accommodated an extra 2 diners to our party. The service was really attentive. Everyone at the table enjoyed their delicious food, and the whole experience made for a special occasion. Would love to come back again and try the general menu.

I highly recommend people to stay here and eat here. This has been taken over recently and the owners and the people who work here work diligently to please and serve you. Lovely homely rooms and bar and restaurant area! On arrival Adam up graded us and was on hand throughout our stay!

Adam and his team really put the effort in to make the stay special. There was a problems with the boiler affecting the hot water to our room so we were given another one to use for showering and the weekend we stayed Adam was short staffed but all efforts were put in to make our stay really enjoyable. Food is excellent and a credit to Adam he just needs more help but it was a lovely staff and we will return.

The room quite clearly was new and was very clean and well presented. The downside was although there was a lovely bath, there was no shower! there was a shower attachment as part of the bath taps but there was no where to hang it or no curtain. The bath looked lovely but was absolutely useless to a 65 year old lady with arthritis. The heating was broken and while we were out for the evening they put a fan heater in, which warmed up the room turned it off when went to sleep and it wouldn’t work again. All in all I felt that £150 including our breakfast was a hell of a lot of money for stay we had!

We arrived to a warm welcome which was very pleasant after a long drive from North Yorkshire. Our room was smaller than expected but was very clean and well equipped including plenty of wardrobe space, a full size hairdryer, ironing board and a decent size mini fridge. Mugs rather than cups and saucers for tea and coffee would be a good idea. Our only real observations for improvement are the shower doors which come off easily if not handled gently and an over abundance of shampoo and conditioner but no shower gel. The restaurant was very nice and the food was good quality with a decent deal on 2 courses for £28 per person. Breakfast ingredients were good quality but consistency varied each day on portion sizes. Drinks in the evening were not overpriced for the area and there was a good selection of local gin to try. The area is very quiet but if you are walking from one village to the next there is a lot of road walking. Public transport is limited with buses only running Monday to Friday so you will need to either drive or take a taxi. We did take a taxi to our vineyard tour which was only 4 miles away but the cost was an eye watering £30! Not the fault of the hotel by any means but something for guests to be aware of. All in all a very pleasant stay for 2 nights. With just a few small touches we would have given 5 out of 5
