I spent my 76th birthday at Elephant Hills Resort, having lived in, worked in and visited various African countries over the last 55 years It was truly magical. At breakfast the kitchen and dining staff danced around the restaurant, singing, ending up at my table, with happy birthday in Shona (?) and presenting me with a birthday cake! I was overwhelmed. An amazing place with sunshine not only outside but inside on all the staff's faces. The welcome is out of this world.

It is indeed a century-old luxury hotel built by British colonists. It shows aristocratic temperament everywhere, low-key atmosphere, thoughtful and meticulous service. The black brother guides you to a special living room for check-in, and sends you wet wipes and lemonade. The back garden of the hotel is facing the waterfall bridge. The most wonderful thing is to enjoy the mist rising from the waterfall while drinking English afternoon tea.

The overall environment of the hotel is very good, the facilities are a bit old but clean and tidy. Completely furnished, very close to the entrance to the waterfall. Staying for four days is a good experience, recommended.

The hotel was clean, has a wonderful vulture show at 1pm where they feed the vultures, great view of a watering hole and staff is excellent. Housekeeping came into the room every evening pulled the mosquito netting around the bed and sprayed the room. We did have a few issues. We made reservations for dinner at the restaurant and when we arrived we were told they did not get have the reservation. My husband told the bar manager who said she would handle it and I was at the bar when she was handling the reservation. I suspect that they did not lose our reservation but could not honor it for other reasons. I certainly was not happy about that. They also did not have reservations for a another party that was also traveling with us. The a/c is adequate and the key is to turn on the a/c and the ceiling fan. I would suggest to have laundry done somewhere else as there was a ”grease spot” on a shirt that was returned from laundry. I was able to remove the spot with soap and water. Additionally we were there with a tour and another couples luggage on our tour ended up on the wrong bus even though it was properly labeled. Very nice hotel but has some caveats.
