This hotel has a great location and beautiful views but avoid eating dinner! Booked a table for 2 for Saturday night. Despite only 2 other couples in the dining room we were offered a table which was right in the doorway , in fact almost felt like we were in the reception area. This was changed on request to a slightly better table although oddly the settings were side by side and not opposite - bit odd as pitch black outside and therefore no view! We changed the settings ourselves , the staff made no attempt to assist. Ordered a bottle of wine which was plonked on our table in a wine cooler , the waiter didn't even bother to unscrew the top for us and certainly no effort to pour into our glasses. My husband ordered the croquettes for stater which were OK . I ordered grilled sardines which were dreadful , only tepid , clearly from a tin and most definitely had not seen a grill - served on toast which had seen a grill ....too much of a grill as toast burnt! Main courses also really disappointing - only one vegetarian option , so choose fish which was rubbery and tasteless. I order a side salad which failed to turn up! Desert menu arrived covered in grease marks and stains. We shared a desert which was , in fact the best course. This meal was not cheap - over £100 in total and definitely not worth it at all . It is a shame because the decor is good and this is a great location. However there are lots of lovely places serving meals along this coastline ...Golden Lion - you are going to have to make improvements! Until you do I would advise a drink in the lovely new conservatory but avoid eating here at all costs!
