A wonderful hotel experience like no other! This is a small castle hotel with a history of about 500 years with dozens of acres of lawns and woods, warm service staff and castle owners. The room is quiet, clean and comfortable, and the equipment is made in France. The breakfast is good and the local fruits are delicious. The castle is full of monuments and decorations, giving it a strong sense of history. The door is usually closed, which is different from ordinary hotels. Before arriving, you need to contact the hotel by email and phone number in advance to get the password to enter the door. After pressing the password, the door will open automatically, which is more interesting.

We found the Chateau Grottaux on the Internet and didn't know what to expect. We were extremely surprised how beautiful the castle and the whole area is. The owners take great care of their guests and try to make their stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms are large and some of them are furnished in antique style; our room Zeus had old paintings from the castle's original period on the walls. The swimming pool is a dream; we will never forget our morning swim - all alone in a large pool. The breakfast is lovingly prepared and leaves nothing to be desired. Overall, we can only recommend the stay; it's a pity we were only there for such a short time. Good luck to the owners!

It was our fifth hotel in five nights, and while it wasn't as expensive as some of the other hotels, we saved the best for last. We pulled in through the private gated entrance and drove down the long driveway to find the breathtaking, Chateau looking better than it did online. The staff welcomed us and made us feel at home. We were given a quick tour to see the beautiful, charming decor of the living room (with casual Hermes blankets draped over beautiful sofas) and breakfast room. Our room was beautiful, clean and serene. The views out every window were calming. We could see the river from our bedroom window with a vineyard behind it! My wife took photos of the room to use as inspiration for our own house. The bed was really comfortable with clean, soft linens and great pillows. The bathroom didn't feel dated at all and gave my wife space for all her stuff! The breakfast the next day was delicious. There was a full spread that was better than any of the previous hotels at which we stayed. The owner came out and visited with us. He offered to make recommendations and made us feel like we were at home. He spoke perfect English and was patient with me as I tried to speak French. After breakfast we walked the grounds and had another cup of coffee in the garden behind the Chateau with the river in the background. We wish that we had stayed there another night, so we could have spent the day by the pool. The area around the pool was beautifully kept and inviting. We will return to this hotel on our next trip to France. I don't write reviews often, but when expectations are blown out of the water, it's hard not to celebrate people who are doing things right! The owner and staff work hard to provide their guests with memorable experiences, and I could not recommend this hotel more!

As our trip was reaching its end, this was a perfect end and will have lasting memories. An historic hotel set in beautiful grounds with Gael and Cecile being the most gracious hosts. Their attention to detail was impeccable. It was peaceful, relaxing and accessible to nearby Chambord. Highly recommended and we hope to go back some day

Gaël and Cecile are truly the most gracious hosts. We so enjoyed meeting them, and Gaël had wonderful recommendations in the area. The restaurant recommendations sent beforehand are particularly helpful, as are the activity recommendations. Gael was so kind to set up a private wine tasting in the cellar for us (we weren’t staying on a Wednesday, when it is typically held), and we very much enjoyed. The pool is lovely and has great drink options (water, soda, wine, beer). We loved the Poseidon room. Very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Remember that the chateau is a listed building, which means it does not have AC. We had a fan in our room, which helped a lot, and the temps dropped into the upper 50s at night in late July/early August (a heat wave with temps approaching mid to upper 80s during the day). Just something to remember. Our bathroom was huge and had a great shower. We particularly appreciated the drying rack in the bathroom to dry towels, bathing suits, etc. For planning purposes, check in is typically 4-7p. Great location and is about 10 minutes to Chambord, 20 to Cheverny, about 1 hour to Villandry (if here in August, don’t miss Night of A Thousand Candles), 50 minutes to Chenonceau. We loved our stay at the chateau and hope to return! Would highly recommend.

Grotteaux is for the seasoned traveler who appreciates a small boutique hotel experience with all the amenities of comfort, elegance, privacy, history and personal engagement from the proprietors. My wife and I were hesitant to leave after feeling at home and relaxed in this gorgeous chateau. The owners Gael and Cecile put their hearts and savings in restoring this gem which should be on the top of your lists for choices of where to stay in the Loire Valley. It was at one time an important library and you can feel the centuries of time that has past in the walls and decor. We plan to return next year for sure and would consider any season. There are only a few rooms so plan early.

Amazing stay in a fantastic ambiance and surroundings. The small chateaux is a fantastic place, beautifully restored and loaded with family history from Gael and Cecile. We had the room in the annex which is big and comfy and the bathroom is massive- a true salle de bain. The estate is in immaculate condition due to the passion and hard-work of Gael and his daily tour of the place is a must-do. Very helpful in guiding the area, making reservations etc. All in all we had a fantastic time

Probably the best part of our 3 week trip throughout France in 2023. Gaël and Cécile along with their team were the most gracious & accommodating anyone could be. With this being the first time the Loire Valley, we did a lot of exploring in the beautiful countryside. That being said, I'd go back in a heart beat and spend much more time to relax at the chateau itself. Highly, highly recommend and plan to return in the future.

Magical stay at a fabulous chateau in beautiful grounds. The team were amazing, incredibly welcoming and helpful and we even had a tour of the chateau with information about the history of the area. Great breakfast. Lovely comfortable drawing room with log burner and the bedroom was beautiful.
