MainStay Suites Houston NASA-Clear Lake

We booked this hotel for its close proximity to NASA and for the two bedroom suite. It was okay. We stayed two nights. The pool was closed the entire time we were there (it just had a sign on it that said 'closed for cleaning'). We booked for 4 adults and were only given two towels. We requested more towels, which we were promised, but never received them either night. For some strange reason, both mornings we were there, there were no plates to use at breakfast - only bowls. So we piled what we wanted into our bowls and took them back to our room. Not the worst experience. Not the best either.

I must say first thing, the room was clean. The staff was very friendly. We checked in after 8 pm and there was only one person working. She was getting it done, but it really is unfair to have her working by herself. That said, the placed smelled lived in, like old cooking oil. My door had a big gap between it and the hallway. The walls were thin. I could hear everyone's conversation at 3 in the morning.... my neighbors were night owls. The kitchenette had 2 burners, a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, and small sink. There weren't any outlets near the bed to plug in my chargers. There is definitely an outlet shortage. I had to use the one in the bathroom. There was one near the couch. I counted 2 available. Most were occupied by the lights of the nightstand. The nightstands did not have an outlet, which I was expecting. The bathroom sink would not drain. The roaches were the deal breaker. I just couldn't. We were supposed to stay 2 weeks, I only lasted 1 night. It is a good deal for the price if you are on a budget. It was roughly $60/ night. I was in town to help with the water crisis and didn't book this hotel. My teammate was suspicious based on the photos on line, but we thought we would check it out regardless.

I’m in love with the Hotel Room, the location is a bit sketch and the night security plus main employee at guest services needs to improve their etiquette. My overall experience was great, the housekeeping and breakfast staff was amazing. I would go further into detail about the situation that made me question if I wanted to come back or not but the point is moot. I’m pretty positive they wouldn’t have us back even if we wanted to. Security tried to get me to go outside the gate at midnight to smoke when he didn’t fully comprehend that i was a guest, and they made a big deal about me sitting on their luggage cart while finishing a cigarette. That situation really upset me and it ruined my whole sense of safety. I do recommend this for someone looking for a place with a kitchenette. I would avoid going any holidays because their prices doubled overnight and that was very disappointing. Big Pros: Hardwood Floors Big Cons: Toilet Issues & likely the cause of their gnat problem from the whole water thing
