We stayed here over Christmas on a Leger coach holiday. I have mixed views about this hotel. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the bathroom is as good as any we have had on a coach holiday. The down side is the facilities. The food was basic but good, however there was no choice. It was a set menu each night. Also the bar is no longer used (as we were told). This meant that if visitors wanted a drink after dinner, they had to remain at the dining table, or use one of the two high tables and stools in the reception. While we are OK with tall tables, it wasn't to everyone's taste, and space was limited in any case. We wouldn't want to visit this hotel again.
Stunning location in a quiet residential area on the shore of Lake Lucerne. (It's a 15 min bus journey ((No.21)) from Lucerne Bahnhof Bus station) Twin room (cleaned daily) was lovely with very comfortable beds, lovely shower plus coffee/tea machine, safe and 2x bottles of water daily. Staff polite and helpful as you'd expect.👍 We didn't try the 'Fondue hut' experience, as much as it looked stunning it was way too pricey, a little like the Breakfast option (32 CHF pppd) but the heated seat pads and seat throws were the ideal accompaniment to our mulled wines on the patio on the chilly Christmas eve evening.🔥😍 ONLY issue for us was at checkout when somehow our prepaid room was deemed unpaid which was stressful at 06:00, it took time to sort & with our bus to catch (exactly on time at the stop outside every day) to make our train connections, which we just made at 06:18, it wasn't the best start to our journey home, nor the last impression from our stay.
I picked this hotel after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and its proximity to the train station Kriens Mattenhof which is at 10 minutes walking distance. It is just a stop away from Luzern. The hotel was neat, safe for a solo female traveller. Good wi-fi connection. They will charge something called the city tax when you check in. They gave me a local travel card which was valid on local transport. I visited Mount Pilatus from here which is not very far off. Just take a bus, not the train if you wish to visit Mount Pilatus while at Kriens. I made this mistake and wasted an hour waiting for the next bus. The hotel breakfast spread is good, not too much variety, but filling. The staff was generally friendly and helpful. I wrote to them before traveling there to know the best way to get there and I received prompt response on email. The room has a portable fan which was really helpful during summer time. There are a good number of budget food options around like McDonalds, Subway, Migros supermarket, etc. Overall, good experience. Will definitely recommend it.

Our room was quiet at night even though it was facing road and Mt Pilatus. The hotel has a very good sound proof windows installed.
Hotel was near a bus stop and journey to main train station was about 20 mins.

The hotel is about 10 minutes away from the bus station and the railway station, so it is easy to find. The room booked can accommodate 4 people, but we only have 3 people. When filling in the information, we also fill in the information for 3 people. However, the city tax was charged for 4 people when the deduction was made. Fortunately, Ctrip's customer service communicated successfully with the refund. In addition, you should pay attention to the email sent when you check in. Check in on the email. The electronic version of the Lucerne City Transport Card will be sent to you by email almost 2 days before arrival. You can take the city bus for free, but in fact, no one checks the ticket. The key is also self-service, and the key box is at the door of the apartment. You need a password to get the key, but the hotel confirmation number sent by Ctrip is not a password, and you can't find the password when you look for the email. There is a talker next to the key box, you can press the button to find help. Just report the name and other information, the service staff tells you the password and you can get the key. You need to use the sensor card on the key to open the door and the elevator. The apartment booked was good, with three single beds, a sofa bed, balcony, kitchen, and toilet, but there were relatively few sockets. There is a supermarket next door downstairs, open from 8 to 18:00. The price is cheaper than the supermarket in the city. very convenient.
Never have I come across staff that are so genuinely interested in your comfort and wellbeing. 99% of hotels have staff that are helpful and friendly but chatting to Samer at reception for 2 minutes revealed a person that really wanted to make sure you had what you needed and were comfortable. He insisted on going out of his way to make sure we had what we needed. We were travelling light (backpacks only) but Samer insisted on carrying our youngest’s backpack to the room (note, there is no lift). Located with a bus stop right next to the hotel and given a free city pass for all guests made access to town and the surrounds super easy - you’re only a couple of minutes from the main station. The rooms and hotel are neat and clean and set in a quiet and picturesque residential area. Our rooms had TV (that actually had watchable channels) coffee station, kettle, hair dryer, wardrobe, luggage counters and built in heating, but no mini fridge. There were plenty of plug points with USB-A plugs as well, making charging devices easy and convenient. Our bathrooms were small but had all the functionality offered in bigger and more expensive hotel rooms. I would highly recommend Hotel Spatz simply due to their staff - you can be confident that should something be needed in your stay, they will go above and beyond to assist you. Thanks for a wonderful stay to Samer and the team.
The hostel was very cozy and a convenient location. Although it is not actually in Lucerne the bus station is right outside and you get free tickets! The beds were very comfortable and we slept great. However, the check in desk has nobody there from 11 am to 4 pm check in... where were we supposed to put our luggage? Also, the shower wouldn't drain and was very small and gross. If you're a budget traveler, I would still recommend staying here!

Oct 2024:
1 night stay before flight in Zurich.
Easy Walk to old town for the main attractions. Easy walk to train station. Luzern(city view) vibes completely different from the mountain towns of Zermatt & Grindelwald.still prefer God's mountain creation to man made buildings.
