Our meal was delicious as usual, hot tasty and plentiful. You can tell that the freshest ingredients are used. Even though it's always busy the staff are pleasant and friendly and your not rushed to vacate your table. The beer is well kept too.

This is the amazing hotel and restaurant we’ve ever stayed in .The food was beyond excellent, those chiefs, real chiefs are not some silly French name but just amazing. The staff just keep you happy, we’ve travelled all over the world and nothing comes close to this level of excellence

I am not really a fan of staying in pubs. It always seems like staying in a B&B, but with noisier fellow guests. The Recruiting Sergeant, however, has morphed into a very popular and upmarket restaurant and although it still has a bar, the only place to enjoy your drink is in the garden, as all the tables inside and outside are reserved for dining. It was very quiet by 22:00. The room was in a converted attic, with a very narrow and quirky entrance. The room was very small, but bed was comfortable. Surprisingly, the bathroom is much bigger than the bedroom would suggest, with a full-sized tub. On the downside, there was no shower, which made the morning get away a bit more protracted than usual as it took quite a long time to fill the tub. There is no air con, and as the weather was quite hot (30+) and the room was a converted attic at the top of the building, it was stiflingly hot at night. I would recommend timing visits for cooler days/nights. The dinner and breakfast were both outstanding. The portions at dinner were huge. I made the mistake of ordering a starter, so I couldn't eat most of the main course which was a shame as it was delicious.

Generous portions of really good food await you here. Restaurant was very busy but the staff still came up trumps. The Suet pudding could serve three it was delicious light suet pastry. Everyone's meal was very good too. Tables are close so no 5 . Well done.

What a lovely place 😍 we stayed for one night whilst attending a wedding. Staff super friendly and couldn't do more to help. They also allowed us to check in early for a busy day. Hotel itself is well kept, room super clean with everything you'd need. Garden is beautiful and ample parking. Breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again. Shame we couldn't stay longer. All good and value for money. We didn't have dinner but menu looked amazing xx thank you for such a lovely break and stay 😘 we will be back xx
