We have stayed here many times over the last 20 years when visiting family. Check-in was easy and we had a quiet room at the back of the hotel. The first things we noticed was that the bin had not been emptied and the tea/coffee supplies had not been replenished. The bed linen looked crumpled when it usually looks fresh. It did appear to have been changed though just not presented very well. Two of our towels were in the bath but again they appeared fresh but had fallen off the rail. The bar area downstairs no longer appears to operate as a pub and it was devoid of any customers and the usual hubbub. There are no draught beers anymore either. It’s now just a soulless space. At breakfast the next morning our hot food order was taken(no buffet service) and was placed on the table a few minutes later as we were halfway through a bowl of cereal. No offer was made to take it away and keep it warm. The only items that retained any warmth were the eggs which I suspect were the only items freshly cooked. Altogether the worst breakfast experience we’ve had in this hotel.

Just the bed—really comfortable. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The room had old, squeaky floors, and being on the ground floor meant we were woken up every morning at 6 AM by the person above us—sounded like they were running a marathon. Sleep was nearly impossible. The TV remote didn’t work, and although there was a kettle, there was no coffee or tea provided. For the price they charge, this is unacceptable. Breakfast was another letdown—the restaurant looked like something out of a horror movie. Dirty environment, and some of the chairs were broken underneath. This hotel seriously needs a refurb and some basic upkeep.

The staff were so friendly. Especially the team in the restaurant on the evening of Sunday the 4th of May (sorry I forgot to get your names) . They have great customer service, interacted with our children and really took an interest in what we had been up to.

Feel really sorry for Matt who works in the restaurant, poor guy was stressed and rushing around as restaurant was under staffed , told him that he needed to slow down before he gave himself a heart attack. The mangers really need to look into this as felt really sorry for the guy , and Matt if you are reading this, no job is worth ruining your health or maybe your life over. Please slow down , I'm genuinely concerned for you

We arrived for early check in which was dealt with easily although waiting for 5 minutes as staff stretched out. Room 62 we thought was OK until bedtime when we discovered bed bugs of various stages. We were quickly moved to 63, but at 11.30pm we struggled with a guaranteed good night sleep. We ate dinner and breakfast which were adequate and the staff were friendly and attentive if not stretched. The restaurant and bar could really do with a refurbished as chairs were dirty, burnt marks. We cleared our room at 10ish and placed everything I the car but did not check out as we were in the understanding check out is 12noon. Returned from town at 11am to find our room had been cleaned throughout so sat with orhe family members room as they stayed an extra night. The hotel is a good location to town and staff were friendly.

The room was adequate, the hotel is part of the group that also includes the station pub and restaurant, the pub and restaurant are not available in the evenings and they only served breakfast to guests of the hotel part. This negates the suitability of a stay at this location as the town is a good 15 minutes walk and if it is raining heavily makes a saunter into town a wet occasion.. okay there is the Bedford arms around the other side of the station, but if you didn’t know it was there it would be pointless. The breakfast is below par and you would be better off going to “The Cafe” just 2 minutes walk out of the hotel and turn left. In short this could have been a great stay but let down by what are supposed to be other facilities not be available to the guests.

It's the friendly staff that give this place its five stars. Friendly, positive and able to anticipate what the customer needs. Thank you Mario, Amy and Freya, on a busier-than-expected Saturday morning for your top notch service and insights into what you guys do. Really quiet and comfortable night's sleep too.
