I have reviewed this as a one but that’s generous! Arrived late at night and when opening the door to our room was extremely disappointed by the very cold dark and dreary supposedly a superior room mmm I think not! There were two spot lights in the bathroom one didn’t work then tried to put the light on at the mirror oh and guess what that didn’t work either the shower was diabolical right in the corner and trickled out. Breakfast was okay apart from the owner who needs to go on a customer service course as he obviously just money oriented also charging £2.50 a day for Wi-Fi we are in the 20th century and when you’re paying over £180 a night for a non superior room I won’t be going back

Comfortable bedrooms, hot water. The food was good and available at all mealtimes ( Sunday evening excepted). - star turn is Afternoon Tea. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cosy bar. Above all, peaceful. Quantocks hills - good walking at a less muddy time of year. Dogs welcome. Not far from the coast.

We stopped off for a very late spur-of-the-moment lunch whilst on our travels to Exmoor. We hadn't booked a table but we were greeted by a very friendly lady who showed us to a lovely table by a window so we could enjoy the views. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious chicken casserole with roasted veg followed by a steaming hot dish of apple crumble and custard. It was all beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The coffee was good too. Although we obviously didn't see much of the hotel itself what we did see looked gorgeous and very welcoming. So glad we decided to stop off on a cold Friday in November. We will definitely visit again.

My husband and I have just returned from a two night stay which we both thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel has lots of character and is very warm and welcoming. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Our evening meal in the restaurant was excellent, our fillet steak cooked to perfection, we also had an afternoon tea which again was excellent, breakfast was also good quality. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. We will definitely return in the future.

I don’t usually like to knock a point off the score, but I think this is justified Hotel itself is beautifully situated at the end of a lane with a large easy to access carpark and has great walks immediately from the hotel. The room we had was clean, tidy, spacious, comfortable and mostly okay even though the remote control would not turn off the telly so I had to do it from the wall! The only bug bear in the room was the electric shower which was next to useless. It was a trickle and the temperature mixture went from extreme cold to extreme hot in about a millimetres turn of the dial. This really needs to be addressed as it is, as I said, next to useless. The evening dinner menu has been the same since I booked the hotel many months ago so I’m not sure how often it’s changed. I find having to pay 22 or £23 for a main course and £9😳 for a sweet (£4 for 2 scoops of ice cream?) is just too much. luckily we had a deal as otherwise we wouldn’t have eaten there but the food was nice, hot and tasty. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice, but my bacon was definitely not freshly cooked and the coffee could’ve kept the dead awake it was so strong!

If you are looking for a perfect hotel in Somerset/Devon area this could be the hotel to reflect how well England thrives and delivers on country hotels. It’s not a new hotel by any means but the standards set by the hotel including decor are exceptional. Our room was a standard room but was of a very high standard. The dining rooms were quaint and reflected well on the style of the hotel. It was noticeable how well the staff worked together as a team, be it at reception, in the dining room or serving drinks in the lovely lawn area outside the hotel. In our view the kitchen excelled with evening meals, well presented and you will not be hungry after their courses! Breakfast again was excellent. We noticed some European guests in the hotel, good news travels fast on trip-advisor! We will return hopefully soon!

We stayed the weekend in June when it was bitterly cold so thank you to the hotel for putting the heating on. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, the hotel is in a beautiful location, ideal for walking and exploring that part of the Somerset coast. The lounge and dining room were lovely. There are some areas that need some attention, for example, the bathroom floor was lifting where I presume there had been a previous leak. The food was generally very good, we ended up eating at the hotel all 4 nights which wasn’t our original intention. Fish and Chip Friday and roast on Sunday helped to add variety to what otherwise would have been a limited but well executed menu. We had excellent service from one of the staff, she had breakfast fully set up one morning before the normal time as we to leave early. Service was totally chaotic on anther evening. Overall a lovely place to stay with good food. Attention to detail and some staff training could make it excellent. I have given the hotel some constructive feedback before posting this review.
