Absolutely fabulous from start to finish, we stayed two nights recently for a 90th Birthday celebration. Our room, Alder, was in the main building , overlooking the courtyard. I thought it might be noisy but it wasn’t at all. It had a very comfortable 6ft bed, and a bathroom with walk in shower. Nice toiletries are provided, ( by Bamford), towels are large and fluffy and the shower was great with a good head of pressure. The food is so impressive, the service is excellent, and very friendly, and I would highly recommend it.

Excellent rooms and service. Such a great place to stay. I would happily take the room and en suite and plonk it my own house. So tastefully done. Breakfast was also excellent. The room was also extremely quiet. Would definitely stay again and happy to give it 5 stars.

Stayed for 3nights with dog.Room excellent,Dinner likewise, lovely food. The only minor disappointment was breakfast,Good start with surprise sharing board but somewhat downhill after that.Corned beef hash was fine but hardly a breakfast item, more a dinner starter. The streaky bacon was tasteless, back bacon would be better. The patty was an unattractive lump, whats wrong with a local sausage? No eggs benedict/royale,omelette,poached/scrambled eggs on toast.kipper although i appreciate the desire to be different.Notwithstanding we ate everything! Staff were both efficient and welcoming.Runs like a well oiled machine.Would certainly return

Overall this was an excellent experience from the beginning to the end. I can not praise all the staff enough. Having eaten in some very good restaurants ,I would rate this restaurant very highly and one which should earn more accolades. The food was well presented, and of high quality . The menu was interesting and everyone in the party enjoyed the experience. This is a restaurant worth making a diversion for.

We had a brilliant time with another couple who were visiting us from Scotland. We live in Shropshire, but this was my first time at The Bear. I’ll definitely be back! The pub/restaurant was warm and welcoming on a cold October evening. The team were friendly and professional and food was amazing. There was lots on the menu that took my fancy, but I was lead by The Managers recommendations and I’m glad I did. The atmosphere was perfect for catching up and having a lovely evening out but wanting more than a ‘normal’ pub without travelling too far. We all agreed we’d be back, and we’ll stay over next time now we know they have rooms too!

Not sure where to start.... from the excellent greeting when we arrived to the superb food- this place is a culinary delight. Fresh warm bread and butter was brought to the table- delicious. I had goats cheese Mousse with Beetroot and Crispy rice to start- smooth delicious and the Shiraz went well with it too. Chicken breast for main- not just a chicken breast though. Crispy skin, fondant potato, broccoli and stuffing pastry- sublime! Lemon chiboust with lemon gel and Italian meringue and popcorn- wow! Superb service from the young waitress too. I will be back (tho live 3hrs away) and thus time I will stay there too. Thanks for an amazing meal.

Lovely renovation of a old coaching inn, food exceptional value and extremely well cooked and presented, well worth travelling to if you fancy something different from the "chain" pub/restaurants. Small but good wine list, attentive staff and if you fancy making a night of it some beautifully presented rooms available.

This was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at. We were on a visit to the area for an overnight stay and could not complain about anything. The room was so comfortable .with lovely beds. The meal in the evening was excellent with complimentary bread with mint butter was unusual, as was the breakfast with the complimentary fruit yoghurt and the mini croissant and pastry and the Eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly with unlimited pots of tea. All the staff were very helpful and very friendly. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

This is a good looking hotel in a charming village in the pretty county of Shropshire. We easily located the complimentary electric charging point for our car in the car park and plugged in for the night our vehicle in good sight of our lovely room 'Oak'. From the blue upholstered headboard to the pink cladded walls and matching tiles in the bathroom, this newly refurbished hotel proved to be a bit of a gem. We ate in the restaurant in the evening. What a treat! We were served an individual milk loaf accompanied by salted chipotle butter which had been whipped to a soft fluff. On these occasions, I risk the gluten for the sublime experience of fresh warm breaded perfection and it was an absolute triumph. For mains we had the butternut wellington and the sirloin steak. When my husband's steak came it looked like something from the final rounds of Masterchef- properly rested- the perfect steak, perfect pink. Piping hot perfectly cooked chips. My meal was delicious with hints of beetroot and onion throughout. There was an unlimited supply of fresh water brought to the table for just £1 each! £1!! What a great deal. We were impressed enough to order a dessert with two spoons and a second bottle of wine. Settled down outside in a booth where the overhead heater did a grand job of heating my hair to the point just short of combustion. Breakfast was equally as impressive. It came with an intriguing plate of starters on a wooden board. Fruited scone, whipped butter, cured venison, brie and a pot of yoghurt with granola and apple compote. All delicious. Like a platter of tiny treats you didn't realise you wanted until it's presented to you. I love stuff like this- the extras that make a place memorable. The full English that followed even had buttered mushrooms, (yes- buttered!) and vine tomatoes that had been roasted so they were like tiny explosions of joy as you bit into them. I love food. Especially when it is done well and the chef here is obviously passionate about his work. The staff here are also worth a mention. The service we received throughout our stay was top notch. We had a fantastic stay and would not hesitate to return. If you love food and bespoke classy surroundings- treat yourself to a stay at this place!
