Bay Tree Cottage

I love when my expectations are exceeded and they were on every level during our recent break at Bay Tree cottage. We had a wonderful warm welcome from Susan (and scones) and the house is just gorgeous. As the reviews say - it was spotless with everything you could ever need on a self catering break and then some. Susan has impeccable taste and this shows in the interior decor, the quality of the linens, and the attention to detail throughout. It was such a warm cosy house to come back to after sightseeing or shopping in the area - there was so much to do four days wasn’t enough! Hillsborough is a beautiful village, with lots of nice places to eat and everyone is so friendly! We booked the breakfast hamper each morning and it was like Christmas waiting to see what daily treats would be inside. It’s a fantastic location to tour around the area or just chill and enjoy the house. It was really nice to meet Susan and her recommendations for food and places to visit were excellent. We really hope to return soon!

We have just returned from a 4-night stay at Bay Tree Cottage and perfection would be an understatement. We have had the most wonderful family getaway. Susan and Willie are the perfect hosts and so welcoming. The Cottage itself is beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and fully equipped with everything that you could possibly need. A home away from home! As we have a 11 month old baby, being 20 minutes from Belfast City Centre was the perfect location, with many surrounding attractions to keep us busy during our stay. If you are looking for a beautiful place to enjoy solo, as a couple or family, we couldn’t recommend this property enough. We will definitely be returning. Bay Tree Cottage from arrival to departure was perfect for us. Susan the owner greeted us on arrival and showed us around the cottage. Susan is very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and very well maintained. The gardens surrounding the cottage are beautiful. We requested breakfast for one of the mornings, and Susan left us a beautiful hamper with our breakfast at the door so we weren’t disturbed. I can not recommend Bay Tree enough, and my husband and I will most definitely return.

Wonderful accommodation, in a beautiful rural setting, with superb hosts, Susan and Willie. Very comfortable and attractively decorated cottage, which was a joy to return to after days out around Northern Ireland. Brilliantly light and airy in the mornings, and cosy and warm in the evenings. A real home from home - and if you’re lucky enough to sample Susan’s cakes or shortbread, you’re in for a real treat! Conveniently located for access to the motorway, Belfast is only 20 minutes away. Hillsborough, which is only minutes away, is an interesting and historical Georgian town full of things to do and see. All in all, a great experience to stay at Bay Tree Cottage, and a place will we certainly return to on future Northern Ireland trips.

This is my second time staying at the Bay Tree Cottage. It is by far the nicest accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. As many others have said, I could not recommend it more highly. Here are a few of the highlights: immaculately clean, thoughtful interior design, an outdoor seating area with wonderful views (we particularly enjoyed watching the cows graze in the field across the road), extremely hospitable hosts, cozy bedding, a full suite of appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, teapot, kettle, microwave, fridge etc.) and, of course, Susan’s homemade lemon drizzle cake. There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area between Hillsborough Castle & Gardens, the Giant’s Causeway, Belfast etc. It’s a very convenient location, with numerous supermarkets and restaurants just a short drive away. The Bay Tree Cottage is a true gem. When I visit Northern Ireland again, I will refuse to stay anywhere else.

I have just spent 3 nights in this beautiful cottage. I was welcomed by my hosts Willie and Susan who are delightful and checked that I was always happy as I was on my own. This is cottage with everything one could want from a self catering stay but also it is equipped with absolutely everything needed to cook, if you want to, which isn't always the case in other properties. The bedrooms both have ensuite bathrooms as well as a beautiful downstairs bathroom and the beds and bedding are of the highest quality. I really enjoyed my stay here and I would recommend it to anyone who wants quality to stay here. Hillsborough is a delightful village to visit and I will hopefully return again to enjoy this special cottage.
