We stayed here for a couple of nights over the weekend. The room albeit quirky was clean, with everything you need for a simple stayover. And quirky rooms are due to the age of the building I guess..! The staff here couldn't do more to make our stay an enjoyable one. And the food was exceptional and served by wonderful, friendly staff. Will definitely come back here as the rooms are real cheap and well worth a visit..!

The hotel was basic and dated, decor left a lot to be desired. Booked it for a walking weekend, so spent little time there except for sleeping. However on returning home have a series of bites which have the hallmark of bedbug bites, which has left me repulsed. I was in room 5 in the roof. Be warned.

Would write a review about my stay... But it was cancelled by the owner not long before due to arrive stating he hadn't confirmed booking and no rooms left! Was coming for a family members 70th Birthday from Scarborough for the night and no other availability in the area unless paying hundreds of pounds! Looks like I had a lucky escape from the previous reviews!

Fine for the money You get what you pay for, and for one room shared by three adults this was a bargain. Not fancy by any means but no problems encountered

Filthy and disgusting... To avoid at all costs. Where do I start? The carpet leading to the rooms is disgusting, also in the rooms, not only stained but covered in bits of dirt (see photos) hadn't been hoovered for ages. The window was broken and wouldn't shut, the shower door was broken, the shower wouldn't turn off and leaked gallons of water every hour making noise, the shower mount was broken, the shower drain hole was blocked and flooded after two minutes. The corridor stinks. There is no room service, they don't make up the beds. The waste bin was full of the tissues of the previous occupants. And then a sudden terrible thought came to me that perhaps they don't even change the bed covers between customers and pulled back the duvet cover to discover two long black hairs from a previous room occupant. Ew, how disgusting! My daughter ended up with a itchy rash on both cheeks of her face after the second night. Then to cap it all off there was no heating the second night, and no hot water the following morning, making showering completely impossible. There is no one around to complain to in the mornings, just a young guy who comes to do breakfast (which starts at 830 by the way!), the owner arrives at 12. No sign either morning of any room cleaning service going around. Really bad value for money at 95 pounds a night for the room, even considering it was Easter. Had it not been Easter weekend and everything booked up I would have left after one night. Avoid at all costs.

I don't understand why people denigrate cheap pub accommodation. This is far from perfect but for the money it's perfectly reasonable. It's not the Intercontinental of Chapel but for the money it's entirely adequate. Very pleasant people to deal with, a comfortable, clean bed, a good TV and functioning hot shower. Book direct and get a good price for reasonable accommodation.

Dated and grubby. I could only get hot water out of both taps on the bathroom sink. There was a bowl of fruit near the entrance to the rooms which had mouldy fruit and an apple with a bite which had been taken out of it. The wi-fi wouldn't connect. Dreadful value for money - £63 for a basic room and no breakfast.

We stayed across the road and decided to book a table based on the online menu. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff were exceptionally friendly. Our order was taken by a polite young man (who didn't write anything down - great knowledge and attention to detail!) and were served within 20 mins of arriving. The food was excellent, the chorizo and hulumi cheese starter with humus and bread was amazing! Choice of drink was great and the overall price for what we ate was reasonable. Would definitely return but would highly recommend to new dinners!
