2nd visit to the hostel but first time taking the tent. The grass area is massive and my little one loved the fact there are lots of sheep and lambs roaming freely. Another fantastic stay. The staff here are friendly and helpful and we loved spending time in the grand lounge. We will be returning again. Would definitely recommend this place for camping.

We’ve stayed in one of the rooms before and had no problems and this is the reason we had no qualms about returning. This time we stayed in a land pod as this is all that was available at short notice. We payed £120 to stay in a tiny hut, the ground around the area was overgrown and full of mole hills, which you had to walk across to get to the outdoor loo that was like something from the 1900. There was a fire pit that was full of old burnt logs from the previous occupants and there was ash and burnt logs all around it, it was just awful. We’re used to camping in tents and staying in pods etc so using outside facilities is not a problem for us. They sell it as if 4 people can stay there and I think that is how they can charge what they do, however my husband and I was struggling if we both tried to move through it at the same time and we’re average sized people. They’re a joke. If I’d have paid half the price I’d have accepted it as quirky but I just feel proper ripped off. Castleton is lovely, I only live an hour away but wanted to visit the Devils **** for a gig and relax and have a drink which was amazing. But unfortunately the stay has put me off. I’ll drive in future.

Losehill Hall is an overall good hotel, with an area to cook, staff were nice, decent rooms and comfy beds but needs repairs as it is really old and looks like it is gonna crumble down sooner or later, but other than that it was a good hotel

As far as Youth Hostels go this is great! Staff are all really friendly and knowledgeable about the area, food is decent and the grounds are stunning! Perfect location for a loop hike up Mam Tor! Great facilities for all outdoor pursuits. Will definitely use again.

I needed a room for one night, and the location and price here was perfect. I was able to get a private room with ensuite which was great. I'd encourage solo travellers who usually choose hotels to consider this option - I had plug sockets next to my bed which was very thoughtful, and plenty of places to hang stuff up. The staff couldn't be more helpful and parking was easy. Details that were not so great were the window in my room, which didn't completely close, which feels like a security concern when you're on the ground floor. The bathroom light is also on a motion sensor, which makes sense from an environmental point of view but means you can't turn it off and just have to wait.

We have stayed in a number of different yha hostels, normally camping. This is by far the biggest hostel we have visited. We stayed in a camping pod, which shared a private field with 2 other pods (in the summer there is also a tipi). The toilet block was in an old stone building, which had a cosy loung and kitchen space. The main hostel had more of a hotel feel to it, large spacious lounge and communal areas and a huge amount of garden space. Tent camping is orea is on the main front lawn, a massive area. Location wise, its very close on foot to castleton, lots of pubs, cafes and shops. We loved staying in the pod and will definately be returning.

Stayed in a private room for 2 (P1). £100 is an outrageous price for a tiny attic room most of which is well below head height. At night there was the noise of a generator, but that paled into insignificance compared to the other guests in P2 (with which P1 shares a private lounge area) who kept us up until 3am. Hostel is priced like a hotel but delivers like the worst budget hostel in the worst part of town. Staff decent.
