What a fantastic pub this is. Recently taken over by a hospitality chain however has not lost its charm. Great pints of ale and my wife enjoyed a couple of gins. Good atmosphere, nothing too loud. Staff were informative and welcoming. Would definitely go back for a tipple or two again... will recommend for future.

Stopped in with some friends, live music, band playing….so incredibly loud I couldn’t hear anything my friends were saying. When ordering drinks I couldn’t hear the barman, when I had to repeat myself several times he became so rude and walked away to serve someone else. My friends and I left and will not return!

Great room, bit tired but good value for money. Great en-suite, kettle etc even iron and ironing board, fan, hairdryer. Staff lovely but basically left to your own devices which we lovely. But the staff were there if you need them, no food but plenty places all around. Good value for money.

Surprised to enjoy this place as much as we did! The room was clean and comfortable and manager was helpful and friendly. Nice selection of beers downstairs and not too much noise coming from the pub. The road was quite noisy in the morning due to single glazing but noting some secondary glazing wouldn’t fix. Great room to use as a base.

Lovely welcome from Elle who showed us to our room. Spacious and spotlessly clean with excellent bathroom/shower. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided were most welcome. Only stayed for a night but would certainly come back. It's a great base for exploring Hexham. Left our car on long-stay park in town (free for 24 hours) - around 6/7 min walk away. No breakfast option at the moment but there's plenty of cafes around and the hosts are happy to give recommendations.

Had a couple of days in Hexham and found this gem of a pub. Recently taken over, the new management were attentive and welcoming. 4/5 cask ales, including Timothy Taylors and Robinsons Trooper, were well kept and as clear as a bell. Not overpriced, a warm and friendly bar that we will go back to.

After a lovely family night out in Hexham we retired to The Victorian Tap for a last drink before catching the train. We ordered two lagers and a glass of wine. No problem. I then asked the barman which of the four craft style real ales on offer was closest to a traditional bitter. The barman unhelpfully replied that such a beer no longer exists and that if I wanted a bitter beer I should order a citrusy one. When I said I didn’t like citrusy beer he insisted that in that case I didn’t understand bitter beer and began a lecture on tasting notes! No wonder that this was the only quiet place we visited on a busy Friday evening (9pm). Do the staff always treat their customers as an opportunity for an argument? Incidentally, at no point did the barman try to get me to buy any of the real ales on offer. If we hadn’t already got the rest of the round we would have just left. As it was, I had a just acceptable pint of Guinness. It’s a lovely looking pub, but they should worry why the place was the only empty pub in Hexham that night.

We stayed a night at the Victorian Tap on our return from Scotland. The pub is in the centre of Hexham and well placed for local restaurants. The rooms are very clean and recently decorated. The staff are very friendly and provided the name of a local pub for an evening meal (the County Hotel also recommended). The bed was comfortable and there was space to relax in the room. The bar is very friendly with a keen rugby-supporting landlord
