Very kind and helpful host with everything. Beautiful location right at the ocean, pristine cliff and beach walks, interesting drives in the vicinity and lovely restaurants in town. All the best from Rik and Regine

The housekeeping was appalling. We spent two nights and specifically asked for the room to be cleaned when we left after breakfast. Our bed wasn't made properly, there was no cleaning up done. There were still empty bottles from the night before. The water wasn't replenished. That really put me off.

The good: The Whale's Tale is a stunning-looking modern property that is immaculately maintained on the inside and outside. The property has secure parking for several cars. There are electronic locks on the main entrance and the bedroom doors. We had room 3 to the north of the property that was huge (approx 80 m2). The layout is modern and comfortable. There are windows to 3 sides of the room including a partial sea view. A very good full English cooked breakfast is available. The not so good: Our room was much too warm. The air conditioning is not nearly powerful enough to cope with the size of the room which was uncomfortable throughout the night. We were astonished to find that there is no separate bathroom. There is a shower cubicle in the corner of the room and the toilet is only partially hidden behind this shower unit. The window above the toilet does not open and there is no extractor fan. It is not possible to use the toilet with any degree of privacy. Even after 35 years of marriage, my wife and I have no interest in seeing, hearing or smelling each other poo! This kind of arrangement may not be uncommon in South Africa, but considering that most guests are likely to be European, I cannot imagine this room layout being popular with many guests. The town of Hermanus is spectacularly beautiful along the rugged coastline. We would be happy to return to the town again but would be avoiding the Whale's Tale for the reasons mentioned above.

We stayed here for 1 night and it was perfect. The rooms were stunning and we had a lovely view of the ocean. The cliff path is easily accessible and a lovely walk down into Hermanus. Breakfast was very enjoyable, all served in our chosen time slot, the girls were very efficient and we loved their Christmas spirit.

Quiet, modern guest house at the harbour end of Hermanus. Secure parking is available. We had a superior sea view room, with small balcony overlooking the pool. The rooms are modern, with safe and fridge. Large walk in shower, bath and double sink. Communal lounge available. Breakfast is pre ordered on the evening before and served in small downstairs room There is a small pool with chairs and loungers.
