First time at this hotel and we was very disappointed, we booked this hotel because it had a beefeater pub and restaurant on site. As we were booking in we were told that the restaurant was closed at short notice, but we found out this was not the case it was advertised locally that it was to close a while back. You could get a drink but no draft beer and it had no atmosphere. Premier Inn staff work very hard but there is no investment by Whitbread in there hotels . A lot of the premier Inn hotels look very tired and outdated, we have used premier inn hotels for over 20 years and you can tell by the staff on sites that they are very frustrated with the situation. We also stayed at Harpole premier inn before staying at the Holmer hotel again this hotel was in poor condition . I would rather pay more and get a descent hotel, I believe that premier inns have had their days. And when we go away again I will look for an alternative hotel to stay. Having to pay £20 for taxis to go into Hereford town centre for a evening meal with a £100 bill for 3 after a long journey from West Sussex I was not impressed and felt let down!

We chose this as it was near the venue for the wedding breakfast we were attending . Easy check in on the front desk with friendly staff helping where required. We were on the first floor and what seemed to the furthest possible point from reception, once we had found the room it was as we expected clean , large comfortable bed and a bathroom with fluffy white towels . As with so many hotels the restaurant has changed to be in house and not a Beefeater so the consequence is that beer is served from bottles only not on draught . The bar was otherwise well stocked . We opted not to have breakfast and ventured into town to find a cafe instead .

Everything from the welcome at reception and staff finding us a room to get changed in for a wedding to the comfort of the room and the much needed fan was all really great. Breakfast was also just what we needed so all really good!

The staff are magnificent - check-in very easy and any questions easily answered. The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed so very comfortable, affording a good night’s sleep. The breakfast was self service, up to the usual Premier Inn standard. The bar was open from 5pm to 10pm and the restaurant from 6pm with a somewhat limited menu due to the Beefeater having been recently sold. Parking was free of charge.

My wife and I have stayed here 4 or 5 times before, using the hotel as a base to visit our daughter who lives a mile or so away. The hotel is quite comfortable but this time we felt that it is in desperate need of a freshen up with the overall impression of being a bit grubby. The colour scheme looks a bit dull and there is dust in the corners and along the skirting. We understand that a new restaurant is planned and maybe the above issues are going to be addressed at the same time. The staff are very friendly and efficient and we would definitely stay there again but hopefully next time the decor and cleanliness will have been sorted.

This particular Premier Inn is situated about two miles north of Hereford city centre, at a junction on the main north-south (A49) and east-west (A4103) trunk roads, in what used to be the rural village of Holmer but has now been subsumed by the Cathedral City's urban and industrial sprawl. Followers of the Turf will probably know already that this budget hotel is situated right next to Hereford Racecourse, which explains why the adjacent, former Beefeater restaurant where guests now enjoy their continental and/or cooked breakfasts is called "The Starting Gate". Needless to say, given its location, the hotel has a large car park, albeit one containing some rather large potholes, and is also situated on a road 'bus route to and from the city centre. The walk from the hotel to Hereford Cathedral, which is downhill all the way, takes about forty minutes. The check-in process was smooth and efficient whilst my room (No. 34) was large, clean and spacious with a comfortable double bed and a wet room containing a combined bath/shower as well as a washbasin and a lavatory. With lots of hot water when needed! I opted for the free wireless internet access option which gave download speeds of 0.9 Mbps, upload speeds of 0.3 Mbps and a Latency of 62 ms respectively. There was a captive hair drier and a fan in my bedroom as well as the usual hospitality tray containing a kettle and sachets of coffee, tea, sugar and milk but - alas - no biscuits. The adjacent Beefeater restaurant had closed down a couple of days before my visit but was available to hotel guests for their standard Premier Inn hot or cold breakfasts served between 06:30-11:30 on weekdays and between 07:00-11:00 at weekends. The restaurant was also open for dinner on the Thursday evening, when a very limited menu of fish & chips, chicken curry or pizza was available, but was closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (when, fortunately, I had no need of it). The bar in the former Beefeater restaurant was also open for hotel guests, serving a limited but acceptable range of beers, wines and spirits. I slept well enough during my four-night stay as the room was quiet and, incidentally, lacking air conditioning. The hardworking staff were efficient, friendly and helpful at all times. There was no 2-Pin electric shaver socket in the wet room but there were plenty of 240 Volt 3-Pin outlets in the bed room. The small, wall-mounted, flatscreen television worked as expected, with a somewhat limited number of channels, but all attempts to connect it to my HD camcorder via an HDMI wall socket proved unsuccessful. I enjoyed my stay at Holmer in connection with the 2024 Hereford Beer, Cider and Perry Festival and would happily stay here again next year, by when the former Beefeater restaurant will surely have more staff and a wider range of menu options for dinner.

Thank you all so much for rescuing our wedding weekend after the hotel we booked was a horror story. We couldn’t have been made more welcome or looked after so well. Hotel was clean, comfortable and breakfast was great! Thank you also for the bottle of champagne! We intend to drink it on Friday, before leaving for our honeymoon on Sunday. We have recommended you to lots of others. Mia and Dave Ryan
