Hampton Inn & Suites Rochester/Henrietta

Rochester doesn't have a lot of good hotel options in the immediate vicinity, and the hotel I used to use has since went downhill and re-flagged as a bottom-tier budget brand. So, during my most recent visit to the region to visit family, I had to expand my search radius to find a place to stay for the night before I flew back home. That search led me to the Hampton Inn & Suites in Henrietta. It's located in a busy commercial area with plenty of restaurants, stores, and Marketplace Mall within easy reach. The hotel is typical Hampton Inn, which is exactly what I wanted for this brief overnight stay - clean, comfortable, and modern, with no unpleasant surprises. Pleasant surprises, however, are welcome - like being upgraded to a king suite due to my need for a tub/shower combination in the bathroom. I very much appreciated that, even if it was just myself for the night. My suite, 442, is typical of Hampton Inn & Suites and their suite units - sofa and upholstered chair on one side of the room, with the bed on the other. In the middle is a long desk/table which separates the two areas. There's a swivel-mount TV mounted above the desk which can be angled to face either the bed or the sofa. There's a wet bar with microwave and refrigerator as you enter the suite, with the bathroom and vanity area next to the bedroom. The suite was very clean and everything was in good working order. The upholstered chair and desk had some cosmetic wear, but nothing major. The TV was on the old side, but in the morning I noticed brand new TVs in boxes being delivered to the hotel, so that will soon be a moot point. One note: If you order food delivery, you'll have to come down to the lobby to pick it up - delivery drivers can't drop it off at your door. The hot breakfast buffet is up and running, and there's a nice-sized breakfast room. I still chose to take mine back to my room, for obvious COVID-related reasons. Hotel staff was very professional and friendly, and once again I have to thank them for the suite upgrade. And they have an airport shuttle, so proximity to the airport itself wasn't a concern. I don't visit the area more than once or twice a year, but the Hampton Inn & Suites in Henrietta is now my go-to Rochester hotel whenever I do visit. They offer clean, reliable lodging with a friendly and professional staff. With their airport shuttle service, it's also an excellent alternative to the less desirable hotels located at the airport.
Best Western Rochester Marketplace Inn

We stayed just one night at the BW Rochester Marketplace Inn and that was good enough for me. The pros--the staff were very friendly and the rooms were (mostly updated). It's in a good location, just a few minutes off I-90, but in an area with a lot of restaurants and shopping. Breakfast was good (although crazy crowded)--it included eggs, bacon, waffle maker, bagels, muffins, cereal and fruit. The cons--the rooms were only mostly updated...my bathroom had peeling wallpaper and the fixtures were rusty. I didn't love that. Also, it was very, very noisy. We had some sort of sports teams staying in the hotel and they were running through the hallways and loud in the rooms around me until very late. and then the fire alarm went off early in the morning. Needless to say, we didn't get a lot of sleep and were actually on the road two hours earlier than planned.

Because I had to drive back to Boston, I found this place to rest for one night. It was a very clean, quiet and elegant hotel. I highly recommend it. If you come here to visit schools, it is a good choice. It is not far from the Great Falls, and it takes an hour to drive.

This place should be condemned. Dirty, smelly and not at all as advertised. The buildings that house the rooms look like cell blocks. Walking into the hall you smell cigarettes. The carpet in the room was horrific. The bathroom was very gross. There are many other choices in the area. Pick any of them over this one. I can't believe Wyndham allows this place to carry their name. The staff was not helpful at all. I asked them to call a cab and they told me to do it myself. There was no coffee available at all. Advertising was a lie. Paid way too much for a terrible place. Heed my warning.
Holiday Inn & Suites Rochester - Marketplace

From the curb this looks like a new or refreshed hotel. The reality is the facade is just that: a facade. Outside of the exterior and the lobby, the rest is a tired, old hotel. You can't easily use luggage carts because of the small elevators, doors to hallways and narrow entranceways. Ceilings are 1970s or 1980s style drop-down ceilings. Hallways are dark. Rooms received a superficial refresh but the TV is from 2011 -- as in 10 years ago -- and the bathroom is NOT refreshed. Mold and mildew in shower. No central lighting. Instead, my room had FIVE different light switches. Basically, this is an OLD 1970s or 1980s Holiday Inn with a facade update. The pool is closed, except to rooms with 2 or more guests. If you're solo you can't use the pool. There's no bar and no restaurant, despite advertising. Similarly, they sell breakfast packages but there's no breakfast because the restaurant is closed. I went to the front desk and asked for a wine glass from the bar and was told they wouldn't get one. Zero IHG elite status recognition. No local newspaper nor any local information, including restaurants. You are better off staying at the Best Western a block way. This is a dumpy old Holiday Inn providing less services and amenities than a Holiday Inn Express.

Great hotel. Clean, and very helpful staff. Breakfast buffet is varied, and fresh, with a friendly M-F person in charge of it. I would prefer that they stick with Frosted Flakes, “for the kids”, because the Fruit Loops are full of artificial dyes, which aren’t good for anyone. Also have Raisin Bran, and other choices, more for adults. Do wish the baked goods offered at breakfast were fresher. Dunkin’ and Tops are very close, so maybe they can buy fresher baked goods there. All of the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, but several stand out, Matthew, Holden, and some women whose names I don’t know. Matthew even provided me with a box and shipping tape, when I mentioned I needed to send some overflow items home. The cleaning staff is amazing. They are very friendly and helpful. I hope they have chances for advancement in the company. The ones I had contact with were working so hard, whether dealing with laundry, trash, or preparing and cleaning rooms for guests. Overall, have had great stays at this hotel. The only caveat are the number of dogs, which hopefully I’m not placed near to, due to their barking, and my allergies.
