Amazing service and even more amazing breakfast. We were welcomed with a hot pot of tea by the fireplace while we checked in. Nice comfortable.room overlooking the river. But the highlight was the breakfast, absolutely amazing!

Full of character in the centre of the village with countryside views and very close to the sea Reasonably priced with a good breakfast and a very clean spacious room. The downside was an extremely small shower in the bathroom The local museum is worth visiting too

Arrived to a dismissive welcome. Couldn’t even be bothered to tell us where our rooms were. We explained we were leaving early and asked if there was an option for continental breakfast to go (coffee and pastry) He ignored us. Room was clean and comfortable. There was a bath with a mixer tap but no shower curtain or rail. A little noisy, I could hear other guests banging doors, talking and snoring. In the morning, I tried to shower (sitting in the bath) but the water ran out half way in. The towel was dirty and had some strange orange/brown stains on it. My friend mentioned later that his shower was cold and he had to wash in the sink. Also met some people at a local bar who had stayed there previously and mentioned the lack of shower curtain and cold water. Seems like a common issue.

Visited the hotel for a 2 night stay to attend a local wedding. Found the hotel to be clean, tidy and homely. Owner was friendly and informative about the local area which was extremely helpful. A buffet breakfast each morning with a good selection of hot food which set us up for the day. No issues during the stay and would recommend this local hotel if in the Helmsdale area.

In the area for a long weekend to attend a local wedding in a family room which had everything required over two rooms. A lovely hotel with a great owner who is very friendly and can cook a fantastic breakfast offering. Lovely fish n chip shop (La Mirage) next door and Spar across the road. Thank you Hans, for top hospitality and local information.

Great overnight stay here, comfortable, warm room with a nice bed and clean bathroom, welcomed by the owner who loved to chat and inform us of the local area. Lovely to enjoy the open fire as we walked into the place. Great breakfast next morning. Many thanks

We had a room booked for the night as part of a wee birthday trip and we really enjoyed it. The hotel/guest house is really quirky with a wonderful array of taxidermied animals in the guest lobby part (which I explored whilst the fire blazed in the hearth making it a perfect October evening). The owner was really lovely and made us feel very welcome, letting us know where all the main amenities in Helmsdale were located (and their opening times). Our room was very comfortable and we loved the retention of the sash windows. The bathroom consisted of a bath with shower head attached - the shower was deliciously hot and we really liked the charm of the bathroom. It didn't include a shower unit but we liked it more because of that. Our breakfast the next day was a hot buffet that we really enjoyed - it was the first time I'd seen lorne sausage on a buffet breakfast and we do love lorne sausage sandwiches in the morning! Would definitely return.

Very nice place to stay if you're in the area. We stayed for several nights as we used this as our base to explore this part of the coast. We stayed in a family room (multiple rooms actually), and the space was huge. The innkeeper, Hans, was very friendly and pleasant to chat with. Our room was clean and we had no issues during our stay. There is a co-op across the street where we were able to get snacks and drinks.
