Hemingway`s Heidelberg Hostel

I had booked only one night for Heidelberg, as part of a longer stay in Germany. I decided not to check into the hostel until after 4:30 PM that day. I brought my luggage and had to take it up two flights of stairs. I was aware that there was no elevator. I also did not have a private bathroom, so I had to wait my turn to use it. The bathroom was clean. As I did not go anywhere from 5 PM to about 7 AM, I can't really say anything about after hours reentry. Checkout was simple, just drop the keys in a small box and then just leave the property. I wish I had booked a longer stay, so that I could explore Heidelberg a bit more.

Nice place, comfortable, friendly staff. Acoustics were terrible. To noisy, people talking part midnight until 2 am. High street noise.

Emma (?) at the bar made moving 90kgs of baggage up and down those stairs worth it. Great location, cool atmosphere, awesome staff. Upper floors are ideal for light travellers.

Great staff, great area, good restaurant

This place is awesome! It’s a hostel so it’s rustic but you can’t beat the location! The hostel is direct in the Alt Stadt right across from the Neckar River! This is where Hemingway stayed on his visit to Heidelberg, thus the name! There is a very good restaurant down below with outside dining on the Neckar River! It’s really hopping in the evenings! Beware this hostel doesn’t have an elevator so you will have to carry your luggage up the stairs! The high ceiling rooms are sparse and the beds are big with the floors are slanted but that’s the charm in a 500 year old building! Open the windows to the views of the hills and the river. There are 2 rooms on each floor with a shared bathroom. The staff are very friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back soon!
