This lodge couldn't be more worth your money. We were on a honeymoon package which included a two night stay with breakfast, two 3 course meals, a spa treatment and 4 game drives. We stayed in a room rather than a lodge and were pleasantly surprised by the size of it. The room was comfortable and right by the pool. Pool bar service was great with drinks delivered right to your lounger. The spa was lovely, there was a slight mix up with the time of our booking but it worked in our favour as it meant we got to relax and use the sauna, steam room and outdoor shower before our treatments. We weren't aware that these existed before we went for our treatments so would be nice for reception to let you know that. The food was delicious, I was on a vegetarian menu and had lots of great options. The restaurant staff were lovely and very friendly, especially Mary. The absolute highlight of course was the game drives. We had Hannes for our first evening drive and Janco for the remaining three. Hannes was excellent and made the first drive so exciting, but I have to give a special shout out to Janco. Janco was brilliant, so knowledgeable and made the drives so interesting and fun. He went out of his way to make sure we got to see every animal, taking us on quite an adventure to find giraffes. Thank you both for an excellent experience.

We stayed at the lodge for 3 nights which included 6 game drives. We had an amazing time and would recommend this experience to anyone. The staff were very attentive and kind, and the food was incredible. We will never forget the time we spent here.

This game lodge has it all. Our safari drives included in our accommodation price were all amazing our guide Raynard was great fun and so knowledgable. It was fabulous being able to spend time with the animals in their habitat doing what they do! The spa was equisite, the food out of this world every meal was FABULOUS. The staff OMG they were all and I mean all of them super attentive, friendly & helpful. This afternoon we got to the pool when the pool bar was closed the bar maid went to get us towels so we could enjoy the pool - without us asking her! Top class venue with top class staff….

Went on a one night stay with the family. Great location and service. Not very impressed with the food that was served. We have been to Garden route game lodge many times before, and it has always been the highlight of the vacation, but not this time. The buffet has been changed to a normal menu. The dishes lacked flavor and the meat was dry. We were also a little disapointet over the zafari. They no longer have giraffes, and we had the impression that there were fewer animals now than it was 5 years ago. Although we saw many of the great fives, and our driver did a good job.

A lovely setting where you get to see some diverse animals. For those looking for a genuine safari, this is not for you. The Game Driver was very knowledgeable and we had a great time. The menu is a little limited for the evening. The pool staff were amazing and very friendly. The downside for me was that we had travelled quite far and arrived 10 minutes before 2pm (check in) but were not allowed to check in then but instead told to wait. We sat for 10 minutes, then were accepted for check in. Why would you not check us in and be a little flexible? Nothing special was done for our honeymoon and I felt that was a bit lacking - perhaps I expected too much. All in all we had a great 2 days but that was enough for me.

Staying at the Sunset Ridge room was truly special—the view of the vast open land right from the room was breathtaking. We even spotted elephants from afar while relaxing on the deck! We came in April, which was surprisingly much colder than Cape Town. Unfortunately, the heater in the room didn’t quite do the job—we still felt cold inside. Still, most of the staff were incredibly service-minded and made us feel very well cared for throughout our stay. The stay included both breakfast and dinner, with two game drives each day that made the experience unforgettable. Our game drive guide was knowledgeable and passionate—we had so much fun learning about the animals. We didn’t get to see any leopards, but he explained they’re very rare in the area. The reserve itself is quite large, and you’d need at least two days to really see and enjoy it all. The meals were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, and the made-to-order breakfast was a lovely touch. It would’ve been perfect if drinks like water and espresso were included—especially considering the room rate. Filter coffee was included, though, which was appreciated. One thing that did put a slight damper on the experience was the strict checkout policy. Morning game drives finish around 9:00 a.m., and with checkout at 10:30 a.m., it felt a bit rushed to fit in breakfast and packing. When I asked if we could check out just 30 minutes later, the reception declined rather curtly, citing that new guests were arriving. While I understand the need for turnaround, the response could have been more polite and empathetic. All in all, it was a fantastic stay with a great mix of comfort, nature, and adventure. With just a few tweaks, it could be absolutely perfect.
