Stayed one night at this hotel simply because had a meeting with a very important client in the area and then a dinner at a nearby great Italian restaurant (Pirandello - will review separately). Unfortunately the hotel was not able to accommodate a table for 5 for dinner at their restaurant because it was fully booked, even though 3 out of the 5 were staying at the hotel. Hotel has a lot of personality, my room was big, spacious, clean, a bit dated, but comfortable. I was on a business trip, but hotel is clearly not for business travellers, Wi-fi is not good, lightning in the room not good either to work and there are no charging stations nor USB sockets. But nothing of this was a problem for me. I was fine because I consciously picked a hotel which is not for business travellers, so all good. However there were 2 things a bit more challenging: the walls of my room where white/cream-white and you could see the "dead bodies" of some mosquitos almost petrified in the wall....not a good view from the bed. The other negative is that rooms have no air conditioning. Being surrounded by a canal, I can imagine that during the summer in addition to heat there has to be lots of insects. Would think twice before staying here during the summer. But all the above was fine and I enjoyed my room and the quiet surroundings which allowed a great sleep. Now, the staff didn't help much, mainly the one at the bar. When we returned to the hotel after our dinner, we went to the bar which is downstairs from the reception....first impression is not great and looks like a secondary school canteen. But we just wanted a few drinks. It was 22:30PM and we were told loud and clear that they were starting to close hence willing to serve only one drink. We asked for that drink, all were served and handed over to us. Then we asked for another one to take outside, to the big patio and drink outside. They said we couldn't take glass out of there....not to the patio....just to the room.....so we told them that we were going to take our drinks to the room......quite weird, room "yes", patio "no".....but the pinnacle of rudeness came when we signed the bill to charge the drinks to one of our rooms. One of the waiters (seems to be somehow the manager), looked at it, and told the other one in dutch "no tip !!!!".....and then started to make comments about us as clients. Rude comments. We were all speaking in English so they assumed that we would not understand, but one of my colleagues is a perfect Dutch speaker, understood all what they said and decided for us to leave rather than confronting the staff. Please note that we were all 50yrs old very quiet and well behaved business people. We just wanted a drink and because the service and attitude of the staff was bad we decided not to tip. As simple as that. Their attitude of talking about us in a language which we supposedly couldn't understand was extremely rude and unprofessional. Don't have plans to return to this
